Job summary

Papakura High School in Auckland is seeking an Assistant Head of Social Studies to ensure high-quality curriculum provision and effective teaching and learning within the Social Studies curriculum area.

You will lead one or more year-level programmes, assess students’ needs, plan group and individual programmes, monitor progress, and contribute to the aims and kaupapa of the school, while upholding Professional Standards for Secondary Teachers.

Qualifications

• Experience as a classroom teacher in a secondary setting.

As Assistant Head of Social Studies, your role is to ensure high-quality curriculum provision and effective teaching and learning within the Social Studies curriculum area. The role includes responsibility for assessing students’ needs, group and individual programme planning, progress monitoring, recording, evaluation and reporting and contributing to the aims and kaupapa of the school.

In addition to carrying out the professional duties of an experienced classroom teacher in accordance with the current Professional Standards for Secondary Teachers - Criteria for Quality Teaching document, you will demonstrate and promote the 6STP. You will:

• actively support the Head of Department with implementing new initiatives
• lead one or more year level programmes within the department.

You will have excellent organisational and communication skills, as well as suitable IT skills.
