As the owner and operator of New Zealand's electricity transmission grid, we provide a critical service, including seeking to understand how the grid can deliver the cost-effective level of service expected of customers, while accommodating the growing demand for renewable electricity through electrification of industry and transport.
About The Team
Transpower's Grid Development division works to identify grid needs for the next 30 years. A critical activity is to ensure the asset health and performance of our grid assets informs future investments, and that these investments are integrated with wider system plans.
Our Strategy Performance and Risk team develop our asset management system, including our grid strategies, risk, and resilience information. The team also reports on grid performance, manages asset and system information, and models asset health and criticality.
The opportunity -
due to internal promotion!
In your preferred location of Christchurch or Wellington, you'll lead a team of six, and the evolution of asset health and network risk models whilst maintaining the asset health and criticality frameworks that inform and support investment decisions and funding submissions.
We'll support you to work with the data and analytics group governance to scope analytics to improve our evidence and calibration of asset health models, and to support implementation of a modelling platform for coding processes and data handling for the group.
You'll support and enable risk-based decisions to be made across the Grid business and support the implementation and mentoring of others in making these decisions. This will include the development and improvement of decision support tools and regular reporting on how investments deliver asset health benefits.
Ultimately, you'll progress your career and grow as an Asset Management professional through broadening and deepen your understanding of modelling, data systems, and asset health and risk for over $5b of assets that are critical infrastructure for Aotearoa.
What will you bring?
You'll enjoy building the capability of others and managing a full work programme utilising your understanding of how data and analytics work as well as your asset management experience! You will have outstanding analytical, communication, and influencing skills underpinned by a relevant tertiary qualification and experience in modelling/risk.

- Team leadership in a technical capacity, balancing multiple priorities and communicating effectively with Senior Managers and the Executive team.
- Experience in team development, building capability, change leadership and coaching technical specialists.
- Experience or an understanding of asset management for infrastructure
- An understanding of platforms, systems, and data management used for modelling asset health and risk.
