Job description

Get Off the Tools – But Not Out of the Field

Asset Inspector | Eastern Bay of Plenty

If you’ve got the ticket (EWRB), know your way around a network, and still enjoy working outdoors without climbing every pole — we want to talk.

We’re looking for a seasoned trade professional with a current NZ Electrical Practising Licence to take on a field-based role that blends technical inspections, risk assessments, digital reporting, and relationship management. You’ll play a key part in keeping our network safe, reliable, and future-ready.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Conducting cyclic inspections and testing across a wide range of distribution assets — overhead, underground, substations and more
  • Identifying defects and risks, capturing data accurately with mobile devices
  • Completing on-site minor repairs where needed
  • Supporting asset audits, GPS location, and cable/circuit identification
  • Assisting in quality assurance, safety audits, and post-construction verification
  • Collaborating with internal teams, contractors, landowners, and customers

What You Bring:

  • NZ Electrical Practising Licence and a background in electricity distribution
  • Solid understanding of industry regulations, safety procedures, and testing methods
  • Comfortable using GIS tools, tablets, and digital data systems (or open to learning)
  • Strong judgement on asset condition and confident working independently in the field
  • A self-starting, customer-minded approach — able to represent the business well on-site

You’ll be trusted to work autonomously, backed by a team that values your input, and encouraged to contribute to continual improvement across safety, asset management, and field processes. You’ll also help shape frameworks that impact long-term risk and reliability — not just tick boxes.

Why Make the Move?

  • No toolshed politics – just a tight team that knows their stuff
  • Smart, structured work – less firefighting, more foresight
  • Based in the beautiful Eastern Bay of Plenty – where your downtime matters too
  • Stability – this is a permanent, essential service role with growth potential
