Job summary

The opportunity Looking for paid summer work that gives you real-world experience and a chance to contribute to projects that matter? Western Bay of Plenty District Council is looking for motivated summer students to join us from November 2026 to mid-February 2027. This is a great opportunity to build practical experience in local government, work alongside knowledgeable teams, and get a closer look at how infrastructure, community spaces and essential services are planned, maintained and improved. As an Asset Data Officer, you’ll help us review and update important information about Council’s infrastructure assets. That might include checking asset condition, gathering information in the field, and updating our asset management systems so we have accurate data to support smart decisions for the future. It’s meaningful, hands‑on work that helps us better understand the assets our communities rely on every day — from roads and reserves through to water services, facilities, emergency management and solid waste. We have opportunities across our Water Services, Transport, Reserves and Facilities, Emergency Management and Solid Waste teams, so let us know your area of interest when you apply. This could be a great fit if you’re studying in an area such as Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering, Asset Management or a related field, and you’re keen to gain practical experience while making a contribution to your local community.
