About Us / Mō Mātou

At Ko Taku Reo we work to provide teaching support and resources to help New Zealand’s Deaf and hard of hearing children reach their academic potential as well as nurture their social and emotional wellbeing and help them form their own identity. You will be joining a nationwide team and you will share their passion and enthusiasm for delivering high quality education and services to Deaf and hard of hearing students and their whānau we support.

THE ROLE / TE MAHI

We are looking for enthusiastic and skilled Speech Language Therapists to join our team. These roles are up to 20 hours per week and fixed term until the end of the 2025 school year and will be based in different areas throughout the motu. While working remotely, you will be connected to and supported by our permanent Speech and Language Therapists who are based in Auckland and Christchurch and by our Integrated Services Lead who is based in Christchurch.

You will collaborate with Resources Teachers of the Deaf (RTDs) and Region Team Leads in our Outreach School services, to undertake formal speech language therapy assessments. These assessments will help determine learner needs to allow the Outreach Teams to implement supports to develop the language and learning of Deaf/hard of hearing learners from age 5 years and up. Travel will be also be required and will be dependent on need.

You Will / Ka Mahi Koe
  • Undertake Speech Language and Communication assessments in line with National Specialist Service Standards and School requirements
  • Support Deaf/hard of hearing learners' access to the curriculum through assisting in developing a better understanding of their language needs
  • Through assessment data, reports and recommendations provided to RTDs assist Deaf/hard of hearing learners to reach their potential
  • Provide professional guidance and motivation to teachers and support staff
  • Support learners’ access to the curriculum through supporting RTD's to provide assessment-informed interventions
You Will Have / Kei a Koe
  • NZ recognised qualification in Speech Language Therapy
  • Knowledge and understanding of the NZ Education Sector and recognised for lifting student achievement and wellbeing
  • Experience in systems, strategic planning, implementation and reporting
  • Current, clean drivers licence and use of own car - mileage will be reimbursed (with conditions)
  • Respect and positive engagement with all learners and colleagues
  • An affinity or understanding of Deaf Culture and community would be great however we can bring you into this world and help you engage
