Purpose of the Role

To carry out asphalt surfacing tasks safely, efficiently, and to high quality standards. This includes the operation of plant and equipment, manual asphalt placement, site preparation, and finishing. The Asphalt Operator plays a key role in delivering projects on time and to specification, contributing to the team's overall success.


Key Responsibilities

Operations & Technical

  • Operate asphalt equipment such as pavers, rollers, trucks, and hand tools
    • Carry out manual tasks such as raking, shoveling, and compacting asphalt
    • Understand job specifications and instructions provided by the Supervisor or Foreperson
    • Maintain plant and equipment to a high standard
    • Assist in setting up and packing down job sites
  • Ensure work is carried out to the specified standards and tolerances
    • Take care with site presentation and finishing work
    • Assist in maintaining accurate site records as requested
Teamwork & Culture
  • Work collaboratively with fellow crew members to complete tasks & Communicate clearly and respectfully on site
  • Represent HEB values through professionalism and teamwork

Health & Safety
  • Follow all HEB safety procedures and wear PPE at all times
  • Actively contribute to a safe worksite by identifying hazards and reporting near misses/incidents
  • Participate in toolbox talks and safety briefings
  • Operate plant and equipment within safe work practices

Qualifications & Experience

Essential
  • Site Safe Construction Passport
  • Class 1 NZ Driver Licence
  • Experience with asphalt surfacing equipment or civil construction
  • Familiarity with safe work practices on civil sites
Desirable
  • Class 2 or higher licence
  • W, T, R endorsements
  • Knowledge of bitumen handling
  • Experience operating paver, roller, or skid steer loaders
