Job description
Apprenticeship Plumber/ Drainlayer/ Gasfitter - Christchurch

Foleys is a well-established NZ plumbing, drainage, gas fitting, electrical, and mechanical business with around 250 staff across our twelve NZ locations. At Foleys you will be part of a close-knit team where good pay, career development, and support are available to you.

What does an apprenticeship with Foleys involve?

Supported by your branch and the wider company, you will join our team permanently and be trained to be a well-rounded trades person. For about five years you will learn about all the different aspects of plumbing, drainage, & gasfitting – service, new builds, commercial plumbing etc. You will start on at least the adult minimum wage and provided you are going well, your pay will increase twice a year throughout your apprenticeship, increasing yet again when you get qualified!

You will start off helping our trade staff with their tasks, doing what needs to be done and learning as you go through on-the-job training, block courses, & online course work. Over the years of your apprenticeship, you will increasingly become more skilled, more responsible, and more independent, finally becoming a confident trades person in your own work van!

About you

Please only apply if you meet the following requirements:

  • I am willing to commit to the course work / study required to successfully complete my apprenticeship qualification.
  • I have NCEA level 2 or equivalent (maths, technical subjects, PE preferred) and have solid literacy and numeracy skills.
  • I am experienced in hands-on / workshop / technical/ physical activities.
  • I like being outside and have the strength and fitness for this sometimes-physical role. This includes being comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.
  • I am a NZ citizen or permanent resident, living in the Christchurch area already or able to relocate because I have a strong support network in the area.
  • I have a clean driver’s license and the ability to drive a manual vehicle (or a willingness to learn).

Please note that staff are required to undergo drug & alcohol testing plus criminal history checks and that certain convictions may mean that you are unable to work for us.

You should also be keen to work by our Foleys company values of Trust, Respect, Effort, Expertise.

We are an equal opportunity employer and invite applications from all ages, stages, and walks of life.

If this opportunity sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.
