Kaikoura - Animal Care, Housekeeping, DIY, and Gardening
We are offering a voluntary exchange with one position left to fill, starting now or as soon as possible. The role includes looking after 80+ animals, cleaning six unusual rental units (yurt, tipi, train carriage, etc.), and maintaining a large vegetable garden.
On-site private accommodation is included, featuring two private double bedrooms or a single shepherd hut, with laundry, heating, electricity, and living basics. Staff shared facilities include a shower room, kitchen, and common room with a sofa, large TV, and free wi-fi.
The animal care and gardening responsibilities require 4 hours of volunteer work per day, 6 days a week, with one day off. Housekeeping and DIY tasks are paid, up to 50% of the working day, depending on accommodation bookings and other factors.
Volunteers receive a weekly cash allowance of $70 for food, topped up by free on-site food, increasing to $100 after four weeks. We prefer long-term commitments, with a minimum stay of one month.
The location is 1km from the river walk/cycle route, 3km from the beach, 4km from Kaikoura town centre, and 4km from the mountains, offering spectacular views.
Staff facilities include two double rooms, one single bed shepherd hut, shared kitchen, bathroom, and common room with sofa and HUGE TV.
