About us

Taranaki Pathology Services is a division of Asia Pacific Healthcare Group (APHG) that has provided doctors and patients in New Zealand with public and private pathology services since 1960. APHG is the largest provider of Pathology services in New Zealand, with laboratories throughout the country.

Taranaki is a region on the west coast of New Zealand’s North Island, known for its mountain (Mt Taranaki) and temperate climate. The region offers outdoor pursuits including hiking and surfing.

About the role

Our Taranaki laboratory provides both public hospital and community anatomic pathology services, serving a population of approximately 125,000. The Anatomical Pathology department processes over 14,000 surgical and 1,000 Cytology cases each year. We are seeking an experienced Anatomic Pathologist to be the 3rd full-time pathologist in our group.

Competency in cut up and diagnosis of a broad range of tissue types is essential. A special interest in dermatopathology and/or gastrointestinal pathology is desirable. Active participation in Multidisciplinary Meetings is an expectation of this role.

Responsibilities
  • Provide diagnostic services in anatomical pathology for surgical and cytology specimens.
  • Maintain high quality pathology practice with competency in cut up and diagnosis of a broad range of tissue types.
  • Participate actively in Multidisciplinary Meetings.
  • Contribute to service development and continuous improvement within the laboratory and department.
Qualifications
  • Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (FRCPA) or a similar recognised postgraduate qualification.
  • Eligible for vocational registration as a Specialist Pathologist by the Medical Council of New Zealand.
