Job summary

Ministry for Primary Industries is seeking an Analyst in Spatial Intelligence to provide GIS analysis and data interpretation for forestry and ETS programmes. The role supports land eligibility assessments, workflow development, and policy advice within a national context.

You will work with ArcGIS Pro, Python, R, SQL, and FME to craft high-quality maps, reports and analyses, and build strong internal and external partnerships. The role can be based in Tauranga, Wellington, Gisborne or Rotorua.

Qualifications

• Graduate or early-career GIS analyst with ArcGIS Pro experience.
• Advanced analytical capability with the ability to review, record and synthesise information.
• Independent thinking and decision making using prescribed frameworks and rulesets.

Responsibilities

• Apply GIS and spatial analysis to support forestry and ETS for forestry.
• Interpret aerial and multispectral imagery and maintain GIS datasets.
• Develop spatial workflows, scripts and web tools to improve data use and analysis methods.
• Peer review spatial products and methods and build stakeholder relationships.

**Analyst Spatial Intelligence****Role type:** Permanent, Full-time**Location:** National**Salary band & range**: General Salary Range Band F: $77,992 to $90,999 depending on skills and experience**About the Role - Kōrero mō te Tūranga**Join our focused Spatial Intelligence team to provide spatial data analysis to inform on a range of organisational delivery decisions. You will undertake imagery analysis, assist in developing spatial workflows, and provide sound advice to programmes including the Emissions Trading Scheme for forestry, land use, forestry investments, biosecurity readiness and response, and fisheries. You will also get the chance to be involved in new spatial initiatives across the Ministry for which you will bring your experience with GIS.The role will be focused on supporting the ETS for forestry through conducting land eligibility assessments, peer reviews, workflow development, policy advice, and data analysis.Core responsibilities for the role:* Apply GIS and spatial analysis to support forestry and wider primary industries.* Understand and apply relevant legislation, policy, and regulations.* Assess ETS applications and estimate timeframes.* Contribute to the development of innovative technical solutions (including scripting, automation, and web tools) to improve data use and analysis methods.* Apply independent initiative, critical thinking, and problem solving to produce high-quality maps, reports, and analysis.* Maintain and use GIS datasets to support spatial intelligence.* Continuously improve processes and tools.* Peer review spatial products and methods.* Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.This role can be based in **Tauranga, Wellington, Gisborne or Rotorua.****About You - Mōu**This role would best suit a graduate or an intermediate GIS analyst with a couple of years' experience using the ESRI software suite including ArcGIS Pro.To be successful in this role you will offer the ability to:* Apply your existing geospatial methods to map and analyse forestry and/or the ETS for forestry.* Demonstrate advanced analytical skills in reviewing, recording and synthesising information from numerous sources to inform decision making.* Have experience with Python, R, SQL, and/or FME.* Interpret aerial and ground photography and multi-spectral satellite imagery.* Identify and communicate risks, issues, and options and potential solutions.* Carry out independent thinking and decision making using prescribed frameworks and rulesets.* Effectively translate business requirements into meaningful outcomes.* Actively partake in our supportive team environment with openness, empathy and tolerance and recognize the value of collaboration.**About the Team** - **Mō tō mātou Rōpū**Our team culture is critical to our success.
