Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora’s Nelson Hospital seeks three permanent full-time anaesthetists to join our busy team. You will contribute to high-quality perioperative care across surgical specialties in a collaborative environment.

You will be part of a dedicated anaesthesia service with strong interdisciplinary teamwork, covering planned and acute theatre sessions, on-call support, and pre-assessment clinics in a secondary care setting.

Qualifications

• Eligible for Annual Practising Certificate with vocational scope in Anaesthesia.
• Fellowship of FANZCA or equivalent is preferred.
• Ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality perioperative care across a range of surgical specialties.
• Cover planned care and acute theatre sessions; participate in anaesthetic roster and after-hours on-call.
• Contribute to pre-assessment clinics and anaesthetic service delivery.

About the Role

As a key member of our Anaesthesia team, you will play anessential role in delivering high-quality perioperative care across a range ofsurgical specialties. Working in acollaborative and well-respected team, you will contribute to both planned careand acute services, ensuring safe and effective patient outcomes.

You will become part of a dedicated team of 17 experiencedand supportive SMO colleagues, six ANZCA basic trainees along with a highlycompetent surgical and ICU team, all committed to delivering excellence inpatient care.

You will be working within a secondary care settingparticipating in the anaesthetic roster, covering planned care and acutetheatre sessions, anaesthesia after-hours on call support, anaestheticpre-assessment clinics and working as the duty anaesthetist.

About the Team/Service/Location

Nelson's Anaesthesia team consists of experiencedconsultants, ANZCA trainees, skilled anaesthetic technicians, and registerednurse assistants to the anaesthetist. We pride ourselves on our collegialenvironment, with strong interdisciplinary collaboration and a commitment tocontinuous learning and development.

Our Anaesthesia service provides support to the acute painmanagement service and other departments including Obstetrics and Gynaecology,Paediatrics, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, ENT, Ophthalmology,Dental, Mental Health, and the Emergency department. The service also offersanaesthesia for visiting subspecialty surgeons in Paediatric Surgery,Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery, Plastics, and Maxillofacial Surgery.

These positions offer an excellent work'life balance and abroad case mix across surgical specialties, encompassing both elective andacute care, within a supportive and collegial environment. We seek threepermanent 1.0 FTE (80 hours per fortnight) candidates to join our team.

About you

The ideal applicant will:

• Bring clinical expertise to a smaller provincial hospital and contribute to the care of patients in the Nelson Tasman region.
• Be eligible for an Annual Practicing Certificate with vocational scope in Anaesthesia with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
• Hold Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists(FANZCA), or equivalent.
• Work with others to promote a cohesive team culture of collaborative practice, openness and respect across disciplines.
