Job summary

Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children at the Westgate site is recruiting Allied Support Workers to provide reliable operational support to frontline Social Work teams and respond to sustained service demand.

You will work under supervision, help with home visits, admin tasks, and transport tamariki and rangatahi, with some weekends and afterhours. The role emphasizes safety, cultural awareness of Māori and Pacific communities, and strong teamwork.

Qualifications

• Experience in the community helping or supporting people in need.
• Experience with Māori and/or Pasifika cultures.
• Ability to handle emotional situations with empathy.
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication.
• Ability to work in collaborative relationships.
• Understanding of cross-cultural practices, tikanga Māori and Pacific cultures.

Responsibilities

• Provide site-wide support on demand to the team’s day-to-day needs.
• Assist social workers to enter case notes in CYRAS and other systems.
• Safely transport tamariki and rangatahi to appointments, school and activities.
• Support admin tasks for Family Group Conferences (FGC).
• Assist with care of tamariki and rangatahi when out of school or awaiting placements.
• Arrange administrative processes for tamariki in placement or transitions.
• Support tamariki at school during settling in or returning after absence.
• Conduct supervised visits, drive clients, and write contact notes.
• Some weekends and afterhours work may be required.
• Foster cooperative relations with internal colleagues and external partners.
