Job summary

WorkSafe New Zealand is hiring an AI Enablement Lead to shape how AI is adopted across product management and development. You will partner with product leads and policy teams to design AI-enabled approaches that deliver practical business outcomes.

In this role you will build capability, drive continuous improvement, and ensure all AI work aligns with governance, quality and regulatory standards, helping teams turn emerging tech into real safety outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Experience embedding AI into product development and management.
  • Ability to design and refine AI-enabled workflows and agents.
  • Strong understanding of prompt design and contextual instruction.
  • Experience coaching teams and driving adoption of new ways of working.
  • Knowledge of governance, information management and risk controls for safe AI adoption.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with product leads and digital teams to embed AI capabilities into product development and management.
  • Design and continually improve AI agents, prompt libraries, and AI-enabled solutions within our product processes.
  • Identify opportunities across the product lifecycle to improve research, drafting, testing, and content maintenance.

About Your Team / Ko Te Tīma

Regulatory Effectiveness is a new group established at WorkSafe to strengthen regulatory focus and improve how WorkSafe understands risk, designs interventions, and evaluates impact.

The Product Design and Development team develops and maintains products, guidance, and content that help improve health and safety outcomes across New Zealand. Working closely with Product Leads, policy specialists, digital teams, and subject matter experts, the team is focused on delivering high-quality, user‑centred products that make a real difference.

About The Role / Ō Te Tūranga

This is a unique opportunity to shape how WorkSafe uses artificial intelligence to deliver better products and services. As an AI Enablement Lead, you will provide operational leadership to accelerate the adoption of AI across product management and development. You will work alongside Product Leads and subject matter experts to design and integrate AI‑enabled approaches, helping teams turn emerging technology into practical business outcomes.

You will build functional capability, drive continuous improvement, and ensure all AI‑enabled work aligns with regulatory, governance, and quality standards.

What You’ll Do/ Ko tōu ake mahi
  • Partner with Product Leads, policy, and digital teams to embed AI capabilities into product development and management.
  • Design and continuously improve AI agents, prompt libraries, and AI‑enabled solutions within our product processes.
  • Identify opportunities across the product lifecycle to improve research, drafting, testing, and content maintenance.
  • Coach teams to build capability and support the sustainable adoption of AI‑enabled ways of working.
  • Ensure all AI-generated outputs meet governance, quality assurance, and regulatory requirements.
What You’ll Bring / Ko ngā pukenga ōu
  • Experience analysing business workflows and translating operational needs into AI and automation solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and refine AI‑enabled workflows, prompt frameworks, and agents that support scalable ways of working.
  • Strong understanding of prompt design, contextual instruction, and the human oversight needed for accurate, reliable outputs.
  • Experience building capability through coaching, mentoring, and providing practical guidance to teams.
  • An understanding of governance, information management, and risk controls to ensure safe and compliant AI adoption.
  • Ability to build partnerships, influence decisions across diverse teams, and champion new ways of working.

Salary range / Awhe utu

As part of our remuneration framework, the full salary range for this role is $112,754 - $147,932 with the expected appointment base salary $112,754-$124,480 (KiwiSaver/SSRSS employer contributions are additional). From 1 April 2026 our KiwiSaver employer contribution increased to 3.5%.
