Job summary

Ministry of Justice is seeking an experienced Advisor Te Ao Mārama to help embed Te Ao Mārama across the District Court. Based in Wellington or Hamilton, you will translate advisory insights and kaupapa Māori approaches into practical guidance for courts and communities.

You will work with iwi, hapū, Māori organisations and justice sector partners, supporting projects, analysis and decision-making to deliver accessible, inclusive and effective justice nationwide.

Qualifications

• 2-3 years' experience operating at an Advisor level.
• Experience working with iwi, hapū, Māori organisations or communities and applying kaupapa Māori approaches.
• Experience supporting projects in public sector or justice-related environments.
• Strong relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to analyse information and provide practical solutions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support the implementation and continuous improvement of Te Ao Mārama across the District Court.
• Build and maintain relationships with iwi, hapū, Māori organisations, community groups and justice sector stakeholders.
• Contribute to projects and work programmes that support organisational change and service improvement.
• Assist with the development of guidance, resources, reports and briefings.
• Gather and analyse information to support planning, monitoring and evidence-based decision making.
• Support capability development and sharing of best practice across courts and tribunals.
• Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to deliver positive outcomes for court participants and communities.

**This role can be based in either Wellington or Hamiton.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Advisor Te Ao Mārama to support the ongoing implementation, embedding and sustainability of Te Ao Mārama across the District Court. Te Ao Mārama is the District Court's response to longstanding calls for change to the justice system.

As Advisor, Te Ao Mārama, you will support and contribute to a nationally significant Kaupapa that is reshaping the delivery of justice in Aotearoa. Working closely with courts, judiciary, iwi, communities and justice sector partners, you will help translate operational insights, evidence and kaupapa Māori approaches into practical resources, advice and improvements that support Te Ao Mārama to thrive across the country.

You will have the opportunity to:

To be successful in this role, you will bring strong advisory capability, sound judgement and experience building effective relationships across a range of stakeholders. You will be comfortable working in a dynamic environment, managing competing priorities and contributing to complex pieces of work.

Your experience will include:

• 2-3 years' experience operating at an Advisor level
• Working with iwi, hapū, Māori organisations or communities, and applying kaupapa Māori approaches appropriately
• Experience supporting projects, programmes or operational initiatives in a public sector, justice sector or similarly complex environment
• Strong relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills
• The ability to analyse information, identify issues and contribute to practical solutions
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including preparing reports, briefings and presentations
• The ability to work collaboratively across teams and build trusted working relationships

You will be a natural collaborator who works effectively as part of a team, across the wider Ministry and with sector partners. You will also bring, or be able to quickly build, a strong understanding of the machinery of government, the courts, the judiciary and the broader justice sector.

The appointing salary for this role will be between $85,562 and $109,862 based on skills and experience.
