Job summary

The Reserve Bank of New Zealand seeks an experienced Advisor to lead policy projects in the Money and Cash Policy teams, delivering high-quality analysis and advice while engaging with stakeholders across government and industry from Wellington.

You will spearhead initiatives on payments modernisation, cash access, and the future of money, guiding a capable team in a dynamic, open environment. This permanent role is based in Wellington with generous leave and wellness benefits.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years' experience in public policy, regulation, financial services, or a related field.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification (economics, finance, law, or similar).
  • Proven experience leading and delivering complex policy, analytical, financial, or regulatory projects.
  • Strong stakeholder management, relationship-building, and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Experience coaching, managing, or leading individuals and teams.
  • Sound understanding of New Zealand economic issues and legislative process.
  • Strong judgement, strategic thinking, and ability to identify and address policy issues.

The Advisor in the Money and Cash Policy teams plays a senior role in developing and delivering policy that supports efficient, innovative, and inclusive money and payments system for New Zealand. As Advisor, you will lead policy projects, provide high-quality analysis and advice, and engage with stakeholders across government and industry. Current key team policy priorities include payments modernisation, cash access, and the future of money.

You will be a strategic and collaborative leader who is passionate about shaping the future of cash and payments in New Zealand. To be successful in this role you will bring:



  • 7+ years' experience in public policy, regulation, financial services, or a related field,

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (economics, finance, law, or similar),

  • Proven experience leading and delivering complex policy, analytical, financial, or regulatory projects,

  • Strong stakeholder management, relationship-building, and collaboration skills,

The anticipated appointment range for this role is $152,325 to $177,713 (actual salary will be dependent on your skills and experience).
