Job description
Overview

Advanced Pharmacist - Urology, Vascular and Orthopaedics (Band 8a) based at Kent and Canterbury Hospital, Canterbury. This role involves developing the Clinical Pharmacy service, working closely with enthusiastic speciality teams, and putting prescribing into practice with pre-admission patients. Also includes overseeing a team of rotational pharmacists and clinical technicians supporting Urology, Vascular and Trauma & Orthopaedics services, and working with the Lead Surgical Services Pharmacist and other surgical leads.

We would consider candidates able to work at a band 7 to 8a progression. Being an NMP is essential; if needed, enrolment on the course will be fully supported by the department. The post may be suitable for those without leadership/NMP qualification under the Annex 21 training structure.

Main duties of the job
  • Operate as an Advanced Clinical Pharmacist in Surgery across the Trust.
  • Act as the speciality pharmacist for Urology, Vascular and Trauma & Orthopaedics, supporting safe and effective use of medicines within these specialties to improve medicines safety.
  • Operationally oversee day-to-day performance of the surgical team within these specialties.
  • Effectively manage and supervise pharmacists and oversee other pharmacy staff working on surgical wards.
  • Provide cover for the critical care at Kent and Canterbury site when a specialist pharmacist is not available.
  • Deputise for the Lead Pharmacist for Surgery at Pharmacy and Care Group level when required.
