Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora invites applications for an experienced social worker to join the Acute Social Work Team at Waikato Hospital. This permanent, part-time (0.6 FTE) position supports Older Persons & Rehabilitation wards and may provide coverage across other Waikato Hospital wards.

Applicants must be SWRB-registered, hold APC, and have a NZ driver’s licence, with at least two years’ social work experience in an acute or multi-disciplinary setting.

Qualifications

• Must be registered with the Social Workers Registration Board (SWRB).
• Must hold a current New Zealand Annual Practising Certificate (APC).
• Full New Zealand driver’s licence is required.
• At least 2 years’ experience as a Social Worker.
• Experience in an acute health setting or multidisciplinary environment preferred.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and manage competing priorities.
• Strong commitment to bicultural practice and equity in healthcare.
• Understanding psychosocial impact of illness and changing health status.

Responsibilities

• Perform psychosocial assessments and interventions for patients and families.
• Advocate for patients and whānau and support discharge planning and care coordination.
• Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team across wards as needed.
• Contribute to safeguarding and risk management.
