Job summary

Fire and Emergency New Zealand is seeking an Accountant to join the busyFinance team in Wellington. You will handle month-end journals, accruals and reconciliations, manage brigade grants, and assist with parliamentary questions, data uploads, and process improvements.

This fixed-term role runs ASAP to 30 June 2027, pro rata, with salary between NZD 74,454 and NZD 82,727. You’ll collaborate with stakeholders across the organisation and contribute to efficiency and accuracy.

Qualifications

• A degree in Accountancy or equivalent qualification.
• Advanced levels of computer literacy, including MS Office.
• Substantial experience with monthly and year end reconciliations.
• Sound understanding of accounting processes and concepts within a large organisation.
• Knowledge of accounting standards. Tax knowledge desirable.

Responsibilities

• Manage month end journals, accruals, and reconciliations.
• Prepare brigade grants and reconcile levy in the general ledger.
• Process capitalisations, disposals and asset transfers.
• Assist with Parliamentary and Select Committee questions.
• Contribute to projects and upload bank payments.

Reporting to the Manager Financial Accounting, you'll be responsible for month end journals, accruals, and reconciliations, preparation of brigade grants, reconciliation of levy in the general ledger, processing capitalisations, disposals and asset transfers, assisting with Parliamentary and Select Committee questions, contributing to projects, upload of bank payments and providing support to other team members.This role includes gathering information from other Finance teams, suppliers, and the wider organisation.
