University lecturer/Assistant professor in Robotics

OsloMet is looking for someone with talent and passion for teaching in areas such as industrial robotics, including fixed robots and mobile robots, and a positive attitude towards students.

The Department of Mechanical, Electrical, and Chemical Engineering (MEK) has a vacant position as University lecturer/Assistant professor in Robotics. The position will involve teaching in areassuch as industrial robotics, including fixed robots (with an emphasis on articulated robots and SCARA robots) and mobile robots (such as AMRs, AGVs, and humanoid robots). The candidate is also expected to participate in RDI activities within robotics in line with the department’s existing research activities.

The department emphasizes teaching and supervision, and our goal is that the students acquire and develop solid theoretical knowledgeandpractical as well as social skills in a supportive learning environment.

We are looking for someone who can actively strengthen and develop our existing RDI activities within industrial automation. Earlier experience with applying and securing external funding is considered positively in the evaluation for this position. Experience from development work in, or in close collaboration with the industry will also be evaluated positively.

In addition, you are expected to strengthen and shape the academicenvironmentat the university in general, including interdisciplinary work across departments at TKD, as well as other faculties atOsloMet in line with TKD and OsloMet strategies.

Your main duties and areas of responsibility will be
  • Planning, developing, and delivering courses at bachelor level and possibly at master level.
  • Planning and developing laboratory exercises in collaboration with laboratory engineers.
  • Supervision of students in bachelor thesis work and possibly in master thesis work.
  • Actively contributing to the development of the study programs and the pedagogical methods at MEK.
  • Participate in RDI activities within robotics including participation in applications for internal and external funding.
  • Performing administrative tasks related to educational and RDI activities.
Qualification requirements
  • Master’s degree or equivalent in an engineering field such as robotics, cybernetics, mechatronics, automation, electrical engineering, or master’s degree or equivalent in computer science orinformation technology.
  • Knowledge and experience in industrial robotic systems, including programming, integration, and operation of industrial robots (including but not limited to articulated robots, SCARA robots, Cartesian Robots, and parallel robots).
  • Ability to contribute to interdisciplinary collaboration and RDI projects in robotics
  • Experience with teaching and/or supervision in higher education or equivalent.
  • Experience from collaborating with, or direct experience from, relevant industry.
  • Written and oral proficiency in Norwegian, Swedish or Danish (minimum level B2), and English

Applicants who do not have adequate proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, shall be offered Norwegian courses, and must acquire Norwegian skills corresponding to at least level B2 within three years of appointment.

  • Good written and oral communication skills in Norwegian.
  • Documented competence in Robotics Operating Systems (ROS) or similar platforms and their application in robotic development and education.
  • Industrial work experience from automation projects and demonstrated skills in implementation of industrial automation and communication systems.
  • Experience in supervision of bachelor and master thesis work.
  • Good match between background and the bachelor program in electrical engineering: specialization in automation, and the ACIT master program: specialization in robotics and control.
  • Pedagogical education, a willingness to develop professional and teaching skills, and an interest in digital and innovative teaching techniques and methods.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire students and colleagues.
  • Excellent cooperation and communication skills.
  • Flexibility and the ability to adapt teaching and RDI activities to the needs of the department and OsloMet, including interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Ability to build communities and networks, RDI projects, and to demonstrate fresh thinking and innovation.

The salary for the position is in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreement for state employees and OsloMets pay policy for Assistant Professorin code 1009 corresponding to NOK 513.100 - NOK 614.000 per year. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants. From the salary, 2% will be deducted in pension contributions for the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (SPK).
