Job summary

Molgas Norway is seeking a Senior Control Systems Engineer to act as the technical authority for all control and automation systems across the Bergen and Karmøy sites. You will drive standardization, lifecycle management, governance, and strategic development of DCS/SCADA/PLC/HMI platforms and related automation solutions.

Qualifications

  • BSc or MSc in Automation, Cybernetics or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with industrial control systems.

  • Strong OT networking and industrial cybersecurity knowledge.

Job description

We are looking for a Senior Control Systems Engineer to join our team in Bergen office or Karmøy office , Norway and act as the technical authority for all control and automation systems across Molgas Norway. This role will be responsible for the standardization, lifecycle management, technical governance, and strategic development of the company's control systems portfolio, including DCS, SCADA, PLC, HMI, and associated automation solutions.

Reporting to the Director of Production and Asset Integrity, the successful candidate will work closely with Operations, Engineering, IT service providers, project teams, and major automation vendors to ensure reliable, secure, and efficient operation of industrial control systems while supporting the company's future growth and digitalization strategy.

Responsibilities
  • Act as the technical owner for all control and automation systems across the company.
  • Manage the lifecycle of DCS, SCADA, PLC, HMI, and associated software platforms.
  • Ensure technical consistency and standardization across sites and vendors.
  • Develop long-term roadmaps for system upgrades, modernization, and technology renewal.
  • Evaluate new automation technologies and define best practices for alarm management, historians, redundancy, backups, virtualization, remote access, and IT integration.
  • Serve as the main technical interface with suppliers such as ABB, Emerson, AVEVA, and other automation vendors.
  • Manage service agreements and assess technical recommendations and upgrade proposals.
  • Lead major control system modifications, upgrades, and capital projects.
  • Support FAT, SAT, testing, commissioning, and start-up activities.
  • Own software license management, version control, patching strategy, and configuration management.
  • Act as the key interface between Operational Technology (OT) and outsourced IT services.
  • Participate in cybersecurity initiatives related to industrial control systems and ensure that IT changes do not negatively impact production-critical systems.
Requirements
  • BSc or MSc degree in Automation, Cybernetics, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with industrial control systems.
  • Experience working with multiple DCS and SCADA platforms.
  • Experience with ABB 800xA, Emerson DeltaV, AVEVA System Platform, AVEVA SCADA, Ignition, or similar systems is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of OT networking and industrial cybersecurity.
  • Experience with OT/IT integration and industrial digitalization.
  • Ability to solve complex technical challenges involving multiple stakeholders and disciplines.
  • Fluency in Norwegian (or another Nordic language) and English. Spanish language skills will be considered an advantage.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to plants and office locations.
