Job description

Spotlight Sports Group is a global media and technology company with a clear purpose, to set the standard for trusted, customer-driven experiences across global racing and sports betting. Guided by our mission to create experiences that fans love, we combine more than 40 years of heritage with bold innovation to deliver award-winning content, data and digital products. With over 400 employees worldwide, our portfolio includes Racing Post, Pickswise, myracing and Free Super Tips, as well as the international marketing agency ICS-digital and ICS-translate. Together, we partner with leading operators, affiliates and media groups to power growth and engagement across the industry.

As Senior Content Performance Analyst you will own performance analysis for the Racing Post newsroom, turning audience and subscription data into decisions our editors act on. Working across our data platforms and alongside desk leaders, you will answer the questions that matter most to a subscription business – what brings readers in, what builds the habit that keeps them, and what drives acquisition and churn. You will sit within our Data Intelligence Unit for technical support and development, while working day-to-day as part of the content department, close to the journalism and alongside the people producing it.

Responsibilities:

  • Own performance analysis across all content and product formats providing deep, cross-cutting analysis that shapes content and product strategy across the business
  • Build and maintain analysis of user-level engagement joined to audience persona and subscription lifecycle, establishing what drives acquisition, engagement, retention and churn
  • Design and test hypotheses in support of the subscriber growth plan, framing the question, running the analysis and presenting a clear answer
  • Work closely with senior editors and desk leaders, understanding their priorities, translating analysis into practical editorial recommendations and challenging assumptions with evidence
  • Provide the performance input into regular editorial reviews, supporting decisions on which content and formats to stop, start or scale
  • Develop and curate our self-serve reporting environment so that editors have trustworthy, relevant data at the point of decision
  • Use and develop AI tools to scale analysis and reporting, automating routine performance work and building systems that deliver insight to editors in the flow of their day
  • Safeguard the quality of editorial performance data, owning metric definitions, ensuring consistency across platforms and identifying where numbers cannot be relied on
  • Build the evidence base behind major content investment decisions, including our premium subscription proposition
  • Build editorial capability in using performance data, coaching editors and desk leaders to interpret and act on insight confidently as part of everyday decision-making
  • Work with colleagues across the Data Intelligence Unit to develop the underlying data capability the role depends on
  • Communicate findings clearly and regularly to editors, journalists and non-editorial stakeholders
  • Partner with the Subscriptions Director on the subscriber growth plan, ensuring performance analysis directly informs subscription and retention strategy as well as editorial decisions
  • Strong technical analytical skills, including SQL and experience working directly with a modern data warehouse and product analytics tools
  • Experience analysing subscription or membership businesses, including cohort retention, lifecycle analysis and the drivers of churn
  • A track record of analysis that has changed decisions, not only reported on them
  • Practical experience using AI tools in analytical work, and an interest in how they can be applied to reporting and insight at scale
  • Experience with Amplitude (or similar product analytics platforms), with the ability to help build data literacy within the content department
  • Confidence working with senior non-technical colleagues, explaining analysis in plain language and holding a position under challenge
  • Genuine curiosity about content and audiences, and an interest in how good journalism performs
  • Comfortable setting priorities and working independently within an agreed plan
  • Experience in publishing, media or another subscription business is desirable
  • Experience building AI-assisted reporting or automation is desirable
  • Knowledge of racing and sports betting is welcome but not essential

We offer a range of well-being initiatives, including private medical insurance, excellent parental leave, a working globally policy, mental health support, assistance programs, and social gatherings. We also provide a pension scheme and various other benefit schemes. Plus, we all get our birthdays off work and enjoy 25 days of holiday per year.

We’ve also got you covered with life assurance and exclusive perks like the Star card and our Step Further Awards (our employee recognition program) to recognise your dedication. For those working via the hybrid model (in the office and at home) we’ve made commuting easier with our Season Ticket Loan and Cycle to Work Scheme.

You can also take advantage of complimentary access to our Racing Post Members Club, complete with an Ultimate Membership. We believe in making a positive impact beyond the workplace, and you'll have the chance to volunteer two days per year with our charity partner.
