Job description

Ready to bring your rig positioning expertise to major international offshore operations?

Brand new role, working for a historical and pedigree brand in the engineering-solutions space!

Our client, an international Consultancy - are looking for an experienced specialist to directly support two major international operators, providing technical expertise across rig positioning, rig move planning, anchoring and survey operations.

This is an opportunity to contribute throughout the operational lifecycle — from onshore planning and procedure development, to offshore execution and technical assurance. Working closely with operator representatives, vessel crews and offshore teams, you’ll help ensure complex marine operations are delivered safely, efficiently and accurately.

Your role will include:

  • Preparing and reviewing rig move procedures, positioning plans and survey documentation.

  • Supporting scopes of work for pre-lay, anchoring and rig positioning activities.

  • Performing coordinate calculations, transformations and geodetic quality checks.

  • Reviewing anchor patterns, anchor line geometry and catenary calculations.

  • Verifying positioning system configuration, calibration and operational readiness.

  • Providing offshore support, investigating positioning anomalies and identifying practical improvements.

What we’re looking for:

  • Proven experience in rig moves and offshore positioning.

  • A sound understanding of geodesy, coordinate systems, transformations and GNSS.

  • Knowledge of mooring analysis, anchor line geometry and catenary calculations.

  • Experience with online positioning systems, preferably Starfix NG and/or EIVA NaviPac.

  • Practical offshore experience aboard anchor-handling vessels and/or drilling rigs. Relevant survey, construction, seismic or cable-laying experience will also be considered.

  • Strong communication skills in English and a Scandinavian language.

  • A practical, methodical approach, with the confidence to make sound decisions and maintain high safety standards.

Previous Jack-up rig experience would also be particularly beneficial. Positioning a jack-up requires careful control of its final location and heading, with close attention to seabed conditions, existing infrastructure and the planned leg touchdown positions. Experience of these operations will help you understand the relationship between positioning accuracy, seabed clearances and the transition from a floating rig to an elevated working platform — and provide informed support at critical stages of the move.

If you can combine technical expertise with practical offshore judgement - and enjoy working directly with operators on demanding marine projects, we’d like to hear from you.
