Oslo University Hospital invites applications for a full-time, two-year Researcher position within SYNAPSE, a project funded by the Research Council of Norway.
We seek a researcher with a strong background in computer networking and experience developing or applying machine-learning methods to networking problems.
SYNAPSE develops networks that adapt scheduling, routing and resource allocation to network conditions and clinical urgency. It also develops distributed and federated learning methods that adapt to connectivity, available resources and clinical priorities. The methods are evaluated in remote patient monitoring and hospital-at-home scenarios.
Research areas include learning-based network control, reinforcement learning and multi-agent reinforcement learning, graph and hypergraph representation learning, temporal graph neural networks, and network- and urgency-aware federated learning.
The position focuses on network protocols and control at the MAC, network, transport and cross-layer levels. It does not cover hardware, antennas, circuits or physical-layer signal processing and is not a general data-science position.
The successful candidate will lead research on learning-based, urgency-aware network control and network-aware distributed learning; evaluate methods through network simulation, emulation or testbeds and real monitoring data; collaborate with the PhD fellow and master’s students; publish in leading networking venues; and contribute to project management and new research proposals.
The researcher will join the Wireless Sensor Network Research Group at the Intervention Centre, Oslo University Hospital, working with Dr Roufaida Laidi (PI), Prof. Ilangko Balasingham and Dr Hemin Ali Qadir, in collaboration with Prof. Tarik Taleb at Ruhr University Bochum.
