Job description

Shape the future of work with intuitive scheduling

What if your design could drastically improve employee wellness for thousands of employees across Europe? In critical sectors like healthcare, planners spend significant time and effort in manually creating employee rosters. Even then, planning is such a complex task that it is really hard to find the best solutions manually. For organizations that need to keep the light on 24/7, poor plans take a heavy toll on the employees, contributing to burnout and sick leaves.

At Visma, our goal is to make a difference in society by developing software that allows our customers to thrive. In our team, we take this to the next level by solving some of the most advanced planning problems for Europe's most complex organizations, defining the future of work with flexible, fair, and efficient rosters that employees actually want to work.

Our Automatic Rostering unit is an autonomous and innovative product team within Visma Enterprise. Through our API, we deliver a highly advanced optimization engine for employee rostering, which is used by a growing number of companies to schedule thousands of their employees. We are in a significant growth phase, deepening our impact in demanding sectors like public health and preparing to onboard new European partners. To fuel this growth and meet our ambitious goals, we are looking for a strong Product Designer to join our product team in Oslo, Norway!

A day in the life as a Product Designer

As our product designer, your mission is to make the complexity feel simple and intuitive and make planning a delightful and trustworthy experience. You will be our first designer and join the product team to complete the product trio together with the Product Manager and Tech Lead. We have a strong culture of innovation and embrace continuous discovery habits, putting a large focus on close customer contact to understand the user needs. You'll be in the driver's seat for the user experience, talking directly with customers to find real opportunities, prototyping solutions, shaping how our partners integrate with our service and how end-users interact with the product.

As our Product Designer, you’ll:
  • Define and prototype user flows to ensure planners have an intuitive path to success in our product.
  • Work hands‑on with the Product Trio in continuous discovery, conducting user interviews and testing to identify key opportunities.
  • Design and shape UI components, widgets and extended functionality to make it easier for planners to succeed.
  • Shape our API design and public‑facing developer documentation to create a user‑friendly and configurable Developer Experience to accelerate our partners’ time‑to‑market.
  • Own the full design vision for our product. Build our visual identity and ensure that every touchpoint, from our API docs and marketing materials to the in‑product UI, feels like one cohesive, world‑class experience.
  • Act as a multidisciplinary designer that is excited to move seamlessly between creative strategy, systems‑level thinking and hands‑on execution.
Who are you?
  • You have a keen eye for breaking down complexity into delightful user experiences.
  • You are excited to be the first designer on a high‑growth team, motivated by the opportunities and challenges that brings.
  • You are a ‘full‑stack’ designer who loves connecting the dots between brand, marketing, developer‑experience and the end‑user.
Your profile includes:
  • A strong portfolio that demonstrates your impact on product design.
  • A Master's degree in Interaction Design, System Design or another relevant design field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant product design experience.
  • Strong experience with modern design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma) and an interest in new tools like generative AI for prototyping.
  • A solid understanding of software, APIs, and what constitutes a good Developer Experience.
  • Proven experience with user research, including methodologies for user interviews and testing.
  • Full professional fluency in English is required. Ideally also in Norwegian.
We’d be thrilled if you also have:
  • Experience in a ‘first designer’ role.
  • Familiarity with frontend technology.
Who we are and what we can offer:
  • A challenging and varied workday solving complex design problems for a service that defines the future of work.
  • A key role in an innovative, autonomous, and ambitious product team with a steep learning curve and high degree of ownership.
  • An organization that is mature in how to work efficiently with both discovery and delivery.
  • Great flexibility, a modern office at Skøyen with amazing lunch and good facilities.
  • Company rental apartments in Chamonix and Marbella.
  • Significant opportunities for personal and professional development, with career paths into central design roles or leadership tracks within Visma.
