Job summary

Nel Hydrogen seeks a Process/Mechanical Engineer to support stable and efficient electrode production at our Herøya facility. You’ll work near production, focusing on welding, material tech, data, and product quality, reporting to the Process Improvement Manager.

You’ll improve processes via Lean, engage with Operations, Technology, and Engineering, and contribute to HSE, quality, and KPI performance while reducing cost.

Qualifications

  • BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Technology, Process Engineering, or a related field.
  • Relevant engineering experience is an advantage, but recent graduates with motivation are encouraged to apply.
  • Understanding of automated production processes from manufacturing or similar environments.
  • Knowledge of welding processes; laser or ultrasonic welding is an advantage.
  • Understanding of materials, especially steel, nickel, or joining technologies.
  • Ability to work with process data and use insights to monitor and improve performance.
  • Proficiency with data-driven models and machine learning for process monitoring.
  • Knowledge of electrolyser technology is an advantage; willingness to learn.
  • Awareness of HSE and quality practices in production.
  • Fluency in Norwegian and English, both written and spoken.

Responsibilities

  • Follow daily operations and process performance in a highly automated electrode production line.
  • Apply materials knowledge to support stable and efficient production.
  • Use process data and ML methods to monitor performance and identify improvements.
  • Apply Lean principles and support systematic improvement across production.
  • Drive improvement initiatives with Operations, Process, Technology and Engineering teams.
  • Train and support operators to ensure understanding and standardized ways of working.
  • Contribute to HSE and quality practices and KPI performance.
  • Support initiatives that improve quality, increase efficiency and reduce cost.
