Job summary
Elastic is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch Performance team in Norway. You will lead architectural and code-level performance initiatives to optimize Elasticsearch performance, ensuring scalability and predictability across distributed environments.
You will mentor engineers, drive AI-assisted optimization, and collaborate across functions to embed performance-first thinking from the outset.
Qualifications
- Deep knowledge of Java internals and JVM memory management.
Responsibilities
- Own performance engineering initiatives from architecture to production.
- Lead technical design and execution for major optimizations.
- Develop performance models for distributed systems.
- Drive optimization for crawl reliability, scalability, and predictability.
- Profile and analyze system behavior to identify bottlenecks in logging, metrics, vector search, and ES|QL.
- Ensure robust performance benchmarks and regression detection for stateful and serverless architectures.
- Collaborate across teams to embed performance-first thinking into new features.
- Drive automation for AI-assisted optimization and benchmarking workflows.
- Mentor engineers and foster performance-aware development.
