Help define how AI transforms one of Europe's largest energy companies.
The next generation of AI will not be built around chatbots. It will be built around intelligent agents that reason, plan, collaborate and take action.
At Equinor, we are building agentic AI solutions that support engineers, geoscientists, operators, supply chain specialists and business teams across a global organisation. We're looking for a Principal Agentic AI Expert who wants to push the boundaries of what we can achieve with AI in the energy sector.
If you enjoy solving hard technical problems, experimenting with emerging technologies and helping turn cutting-edge AI into systems that deliver measurable business value, we want to hear from you.
Most importantly, you'll help build solutions that move beyond pilots and into everyday use.
Within this position, your key tasks will be to:
Lead the design and development of advanced agentic AI solutions.
Explore and apply emerging techniques in AI agents, reasoning systems, orchestration and multimodal AI.
Work hands-on with large language models, retrieval systems, AI agents and enterprise integrations.
Partner with engineering and product teams to bring solutions from idea to production.
Evaluate models, frameworks and architectures, identifying what creates real business value.
Help establish best practices for scalable, reliable and responsible AI.
Mentor colleagues and contribute to the growth of Equinor's AI community.
Represent Equinor in external AI communities, conferences and collaborations when relevant.
At Equinor, there are some overall qualities we regard as essential. We want you to identify with the values that guide our decisions and help us succeed and grow: open, collaborative, courageous and caring. We expect you to make safety your priority and to contribute to our zero-harm culture. And for this specific position, we are also looking for:
Master's or PhD in operations research, applied mathematics, computer science, data science, control/automation, engineering or a related discipline.
Strong practical experience with generative AI and modern language models.
Proven ability to build and deploy AI solutions in production environments.
Expertise in one or more areas such as AI agents, RAG, model evaluation, AI engineering, multimodal AI or applied machine learning.
Strong software engineering skills and a willingness to stay hands-on.
Curiosity, creativity and a passion for making new technology useful.
LangGraph, Microsoft Agent Framework (MAF), CrewAI or similar frameworks.
Azure AI Foundry, Azure AI services and cloud-native development.
Responsible AI, model safety and governance.
Open-source contributions, publications or technical thought leadership.
We want you to have a rewarding and fulfilling work life. That's why we offer:
In Equinor, your development begins on day one. You will build your competence through a wide range of learning activities while being empowered to build your career across multiple disciplines and geographies. Our internal job market allows a wide range of opportunities for development and growth within your own field, or even in other areas you find interesting and relevant.
We give you a comprehensive benefits package with a competitive salary, global parental leave, bonus scheme and pension plan.
We care about and prioritise our employees’ well-being. We know that for you to be the best version of yourself in the workplace, being able to collect your children, attend a class or simply enjoy social time can be invaluable. That's why we encourage you to make use of our flexible work arrangements wherever possible.
We believe embracing our differences makes us stronger. For us, true inclusion means being able to bring your whole self to work, and for you and everyone else to feel accepted and valued.
