Job summary

Western Norway University of Applied Sciences invites applications for a PhD Research Fellow in numerical optimisation of wind assisted propulsion systems. The position is four years with teaching/administrative duties and will be based at HVL Campus Bergen.

The PhD candidate will enrol in the PhD programme in Computer Science: Software Engineering, Sensor Networks and Engineering Computing and contribute to wind-assisted propulsion research and related education activities.

Qualifications

  • Admission to the PhD programme requires a master’s degree in computer science or a closely related field.
  • Candidates from other sciences with ICT emphasis may qualify for admission.
  • Minimum grade requirements: B on master’s thesis and average above C on coursework; documented programming skills beyond scripting in Julia, or in a language Julia can call.

Responsibilities

  • Promote externally funded research projects in collaboration with industry.
  • Interact with regional, national and international partners to promote cooperation.
  • Mobilize research-based innovation in shipping in collaboration with FORREGION Vestland.
  • Support lifelong learning in the shipping industry with flexible and decentralized education.
