Factory Mechanic

Aker QRILL Company seeks a Factory Mechanic to work on board vessels in Antarctica. The role reports to the Factory Manager and Chief Engineer and is responsible for repair and maintenance of all processing, packing and storage equipment onboard.

Responsibilities during operation

• Repair and maintenance of onboard krill meal and krill oil plant
• Perform preventive maintenance of factory equipment
• Monitor equipment wear and plan, perform, and report maintenance jobs; order spare parts using the ERP system TM Master
• Coordinate daily R&M work with factory mechanic assistant
• Prepare orders and jobs linked to annual shipyard/lay-up with the Factory Manager
• Act as main coordinator of factory R&M during shipyard and lay-ups
• Participate in other tasks as requested by the Factory Manager or Chief Engineer
• Assist factory team in production process
• Keep inventory up to date at all times
• Prepare reports as requested, including weekly reports and handover

Professional qualifications

Relevant technical and mechanical competence including welding skills. Experience with rotating equipment such as centrifuges, gearboxes, pumps, electro-motors and knowledge of servicing processing equipment, steam, condensate and hydraulic systems is an advantage.

Location

Travel and rotation

Crew changes are normally arranged in Montevideo, Punta Arenas and Puerto Williams. One shift on (approximately three months including travel), 12/7 shift; 12 hours on, 12 hours off, 7 days a week for the rotation, followed by two shifts off. The rotation averages 150 sea days per year with about 120-135 days off between trips. Travel to and from the fishing ground is about one week each way at the beginning and the end of the rotation, using ports in Uruguay, Chile and the Falkland Islands for embarkation.
