Job summary

Dignio seeks a Mechanical Test Engineer to design, build, and run test setups for our hardware products. You will develop rigs, instrument them for long-running automated tests, and report results to the design team for action.

You will investigate failures, contribute to FMEA and risk analysis, and work with contract manufacturers to resolve issues. A hands-on engineer with CAD, prototyping or 3D printing skills, and Python scripting for data acquisition is a fit.

Qualifications

  • Degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, or related field; open to experienced engineers and recent graduates.
  • Hands-on skills: fixture and rig design in CAD, prototyping, machining or 3D printing.
  • Interest in instrumentation, data acquisition, and scripting for test automation and data analysis (e.g., Python).
  • Understanding of mechanical testing principles, including life and durability testing and environmental conditions.
  • Experience with FMEA would be a significant advantage.
  • Familiarity with regulated product development is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build test setups, fixtures, and rigs for mechanical testing of hardware products.
  • Instrument and automate test rigs, including sensors, data acquisition, logging, and long-running unattended test cycles.
  • Plan and execute test programs covering verification, life and durability, environmental conditions, transport and misuse.
  • Analyze and report test results with conclusions and recommendations for the design team.
  • Investigate failures from testing, production, and field, and work to establish root causes.
  • Coordinate with contract manufacturers to resolve issues identified.
  • Contribute to design and process FMEA, linking failure modes to test coverage and risk controls.
  • Write and maintain test protocols and reports for design verification and technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with design engineering, suppliers and manufacturing to feed findings back into improvements.

Job description

At Dignio we're looking for a Mechanical Test Engineer to join our team.

About the job

Dignio is looking for a Mechanical Test Engineer to design, build, and implement test setups for Dignio's hardware products. Our connected medicine dispensers are electromechanical products that operate unattended in patients' homes, often for years, so we need to know exactly how they behave over their lifetime and how they fail.

In this role, you will build test setups and rigs, run test programs, and report results the design team can act on. You will also spend a meaningful part of your time investigating failures and contributing to the risk and failure mode analysis that shapes the next design. If you like 3D printing and taking things apart to find out why they broke, this role is for you.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and build test setups, fixtures, and rigs for mechanical testing of our hardware products.

  • Instrument and automate test rigs, including sensors, data acquisition, logging, and long-running unattended test cycles.

  • Plan and execute test programs covering design verification, life and durability testing, environmental conditions, transport and drop, and misuse.

  • Analyze and report test results, with conclusions and recommendations the engineering team can act on.

  • Investigate failures from testing, production, and the field, and work with the design team to establish root cause.

  • Work with our contract manufacturer to resolve issues you identify.

  • Contribute to design and process FMEA, and connect identified failure modes to test coverage and risk controls.

  • Write and maintain test protocols and reports to the standard required for design verification and our technical documentation.

  • Work with design engineering, suppliers, and our manufacturing partners to feed test findings back into product and process improvements.

  • Stay updated on and conduct all tasks in compliance with the Dignio Quality Management System and Information Security Management System.

Person Specifications and Experience
  • Degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. We welcome experienced engineers and recent graduates.

  • Hands-on practical skills: fixture and rig design in CAD, prototyping, machining or 3D printing, and general workshop competence.

  • Interest in, or experience with, instrumentation and data acquisition, and scripting for test automation and data analysis (for example, Python).

  • An understanding of mechanical testing principles, including life and durability testing, environmental conditions, and basic test statistics such as sample sizes.

  • Experience with FMEA would be a significant advantage.

  • Familiarity with product development in a regulated environment is a plus.

  • A curious, methodical engineer who enjoys getting hands-on with hardware, is rigorous about data, and is motivated to improve patient outcomes through technology.
