Our people are the heart of Norwegian.
We embrace a culture of diversity, equality, and inclusion. This is essential to our success and makes us stronger together. Our people bring different knowledge, experiences, and backgrounds, but we all share a passion for our vision: to become the most loved and trusted airline in Europe.

Are you our new Fatigue Manager?

We are looking for an experienced and highly analytical Fatigue Manager to join our Safety Office. The Fatigue Manager serves as Norwegian’s subject matter expert and senior lead for fatigue risk management, fully integrated within our Safety Management System (SMS).

This is a unique 50/50 dual role, where you will combine active line-flying duties as a commercial pilot with operational safety leadership across Norwegian’s operations, including Flight Operations and technical departments. You will be responsible for the scientific integrity and governance of fatigue safety, applying human factors principles, safety analytics and manpower planning insights to proactively identify and mitigate fatigue-related risks.

A critical part of the position is to act as an objective, evidence-based voice for safety. This includes impartially evaluating internal operational structures, route programme design and collective bargaining or union agreement provisions to ensure that fatigue risks are managed scientifically and without bias towards individual stakeholder interests.

Your key responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Governance
  • Operational Leadership: Direct, mentor and inspire the team across operational areas, establishing high technical standards and strong cross-functional engagement.
  • Competency & Currency: Maintain team development and training plans to ensure investigators and analysts meet all company and regulatory SMS standards.
  • Working Lead: Actively lead complex fatigue investigations, hazard identifications and high-impact risk assessments alongside the team.
  • SMS Evolution: Drive the continuous improvement and maturity of fatigue hazard identification and risk mitigation within Norwegian’s Safety Management System.
  • Applied Science: Integrate validated sleep science, biomathematical fatigue modelling and operational robustness principles into daily safety workflows.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure operational procedures proactively adapt to EASA Subpart FTL, relevant national CAA regulations.
Investigations & Safety Data Analytics
  • Cross-Operational Investigations: Conduct systematic, data-driven investigations into fatigue reports, exceedances and safety occurrences across operational groups.
  • Safety Performance Indicators: Develop and monitor predictive fatigue-related Safety Performance Indicators to support risk-based operational decisions.
  • Just Culture: Safeguard confidential fatigue reporting and champion Just Culture principles and open reporting across the organisation.
Operational Planning & Manpower Synergy
  • Roster Robustness: Partner with Crew Planning and Manpower Planning to analyse pairings, schedule design and demand calculations in order to improve operational robustness.
  • Objective Constraint Assessment: Objectively assess route architecture, network design and union agreement provisions to identify where structural rules or preferences may inadvertently increase fatigue risk.
  • Fatigue SAG Leadership: Prepare for and facilitate Fatigue Safety Action Group meetings, driving cross-departmental alignment and actionable mitigations.
  • Mitigation Assurance: Audit implemented fatigue countermeasures to ensure interventions produce measurable and data-verified risk reductions.
Training & Promotion
  • SMS Fatigue Syllabi: Develop and deliver science-based fatigue education modules within Norwegian’s SMS training curriculum.
  • Safety Promotion: Drive internal communication campaigns promoting sleep hygiene, circadian rhythm management and personal fatigue mitigation.
Scope of authority and decision rights

As Fatigue Manager, you will have formal authority to:

  • Safety Investigations: Initiate and conduct fatigue investigations across operational areas, with full access to relevant operational logs, roster histories and safety data.
  • Safety Recommendations: Issue formal Safety Recommendations to operational managers, requiring formal responses and corrective action plans.
  • Operational Representation: Serve as Norwegian’s primary safety representative for fatigue management in operational meetings, safety groups and regulatory forums.
  • Objective Escalation & Challenge: Constructively challenge operational practices, network designs and contractual constraints that may pose unmitigated fatigue risks, with direct escalation authority to relevant operational risk owners.
Qualifications
Academic credentials
  • A Master’s degree, such as an MBA or MSc, in Aviation Management, Human Factors, Sleep Science, Organisational Psychology, Safety Management or a closely related discipline.
  • A Master’s thesis or specialised academic research focusing on Fatigue Management, Operational Robustness or Crew/Manpower Planning is highly advantageous.
Flight crew currency
  • A current Commercial Pilot Licence – ATPL or CPL – with valid multi‑engine instrument rating and Class 1 Medical.
  • Active line qualification with Norwegian, or immediate eligibility for fleet induction.
  • Ability to maintain dual currency across active flight duty (50%) and Safety Management duties (50%).
Professional experience
  • Substantial previous experience in fatigue risk management, flight safety or crew human factors, enabling you to act as the senior lead within this specialist area.
  • Experience as a trained safety investigator, with expertise in Human Factors and root‑cause analysis within an established Safety Management System.
  • Practical experience or strong operational knowledge within manpower planning, including demand calculation, supply management and pairing robustness, is strongly preferred.
  • Thorough working knowledge of EASA Subpart FTL and established SMS frameworks.
Core competencies
  • Professional objectivity & impartiality
  • You demonstrate an unwavering commitment to data‑driven decision‑making and are able to maintain independence and neutrality regardless of union, commercial or operational pressures.
Diplomatic communication
  • You have good communication skills in English and can explain complex scientific and operational concepts clearly and constructively to senior leadership, labour representatives and operational crews.
Analytical reasoning
  • You have a high level of proficiency in data analytics, biomathematical model interpretation and safety performance tracking.
    Organisation & balance
  • You are highly organised and adaptable, with the ability to manage technical safety deliverables alongside an active flight schedule.
We believe you will thrive in this role if you
  • Have a strong professional interest in fatigue risk management, aviation safety and Human Factors.
  • Are comfortable working at the intersection of operational flying, scientific analysis and organisational decision‑making.
  • Can combine strategic safety leadership with hands‑on investigation and analysis.
  • Are confident challenging existing practices in a constructive and evidence‑based way.
  • Can navigate complex stakeholder environments while remaining objective and independent.
  • Enjoy collaborating across Flight Operations, Crew Planning, Manpower Planning, Safety, technical departments and other operational areas.
  • Are motivated by developing a mature and proactive approach to fatigue risk management across the airline.
Why join Norwegian?

This is a highly influential safety role with the opportunity to directly shape how fatigue risk is identified, understood and managed across Norwegian. You will combine active operational flying with a senior specialist role in Safety Management, providing a unique opportunity to connect real‑world operational experience with science, data and long‑term safety development.

At Norwegian, you will work in a fast‑moving and highly operational environment where your expertise can have a direct impact on both our people and our operation.
