Job description
Overview

A position for an experienced scientist in Climate modelling is available at the Nansen Center. The position is supported by the Center for Climate Dynamics (SKD) of BCCR and NERSC. The research activities will be carried out at the Climate Dynamic and Prediction Group in collaboration with NERSC’s partners.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct analysis and numerical experiments with the Norwegian Earth System Model (NorESM) to address naturally occurring and human-caused changes to global and regional climate.
  • Set up, run and evaluate climate model sensitivity experiments.
  • Conduct analyses relevant for specific climate targets or climate scenarios; test and evaluate new dynamics and physical parameterizations.
Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree (Norwegian PhD or equivalent) in meteorology, oceanography, atmospheric sciences or related fields.
  • Strong background in climate modelling, insight into the dynamics and physics of the coupled climate system and knowledge of basic statistics.
  • Experience working in a Unix environment and with software for using NorESM/CESM (e.g., FORTRAN, NCL, shell scripts).
  • Familiarity with parallel computer platforms is an advantage.
Collaboration and Environment

The candidate will join a lively, interdisciplinary scientific environment where cooperation and collaboration are encouraged, and should have good team working skills. The candidate will spend 50% of the time at NERSC and 50% at BCCR/Uni-Research; the two centers are located close to each other (about 10 minutes walk).
