About the Role

We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead our Nordic eID team. Someone who combines strong people leadership with the ability to remain hands-on as a Senior Software Developer.

This role balances two key responsibilities:

  • Engineering Leadership: line management for developers, building a high-performing, collaborative team, and ensuring we stay up to date with the latest practices and technologies.
  • Hands-on Development: actively contributing to the codebase, solving complex problems, and helping shape our technical direction.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Engineering Manager who is ready to lead a team without losing touch with the craft of software engineering.

Core technologies you will get to work with
  • Java
  • Spring & Spring Boot
  • Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Terraform
  • Kubernetes
What you will do
  • Lead and support a team of developers, acting as a role model and fostering a culture of collaboration, learning, and growth.
  • Contribute hands-on to the codebase, solving complex problems and building high-quality software with Java (Spring, Spring Boot).
  • Drive technical direction in modern cloud environments (GCP, Terraform, CI/CD, observability tools).
  • Balance line management responsibilities with active development, ensuring both people and technology thrive.
  • Champion agile ways of working, encouraging openness, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
  • Promote continuous deployment and DevOps practices to improve speed, quality, and developer experience.
What we expect
  • Proven experience in people management (line management, team leadership, or equivalent).
  • 5+ years of professional experience as a Java developer (Spring, Spring Boot).
  • Strong background in cloud and DevOps (GCP, Terraform, CI/CD).
  • Familiarity with observability and incident management (monitoring, logging, tracing, DORA metrics).
  • Experience building and integrating REST, SOAP, or gRPC APIs.
  • Track record of working in agile teams (up to 10 individuals).
  • A genuine passion for both engineering and leading people.
What we consider as a plus
  • DevOps practices, observability, and incident management (DORA, PPQ, SLA).
  • Cloud infrastructure (Google Cloud, Terraform).
  • Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab CI).
  • Spring Boot framework.
  • Identity & security protocols (OIDC, SAML, PKI).
  • Understanding of browser technologies (iframes, cookies, CORS headers).
  • Experience with or interest in continuous deployment.
