Job description

We are looking for the right people — people who want to innovate, achieve, grow and lead. We attract and retain the best talent by investing in our employees and empowering them to develop themselves and their careers. Experience the challenges, rewards and opportunity of working for one of the world’s largest providers of products and services to the global energy industry.

Landmark, a Halliburton company, builds the software and data platforms that help the global energy industry make better decisions. Our products span subsurface interpretation, well construction planning, reservoir simulation, and digital operations — tools used daily by engineers and scientists at the world’s largest energy companies. We are investing significantly in our engineering capability in Oslo, building a permanent, locally‑owned engineering organization to take long‑term ownership of these platforms.

Job Duties

This is the foundational leadership hire for Landmark’s permanent engineering team in Oslo. Every permanent engineer we hire will report to this person. The role is deliberately a hybrid of people management and hands‑on technical leadership — the architect‑manager pattern that has historically been carried by the team lead — because engineers do their best work when they report to someone who can credibly review their technical decisions, not just their performance.

As Engineering Manager you will set the technical culture, the hiring bar, and the architectural direction for everything the team builds. You are inheriting a codebase and a delivery model that is transitioning from a consultancy‑led footprint to a permanent in‑house organization, and you will shape how that organization works: how it is structured, how it makes architectural decisions, how it ships, and how it adopts AI‑assisted development as a first‑class way of working. The platform runs on a modern, cloud‑native stack — primarily TypeScript/Node.js and React with .NET services on Azure and Kubernetes — and you do not need deep prior exposure to every one of these technologies; what matters is the judgement to lead a team that works across them.

What you will do
People Leadership and Team Building
  • Build and lead Landmark’s permanent engineering organization in Oslo — owning hiring, onboarding, performance management, career development, and retention as the team scales from its current footprint to a full in‑house function.
  • Set and hold a high, consistent hiring bar; personally drive recruitment for the senior roles that anchor the team, and design the interview process and technical assessment that everyone else is hired against.
  • Manage a mixed team of permanent staff and external consultants, transitioning critical knowledge in‑house and reducing key‑person and vendor dependency over time.
  • Create the team’s operating rhythm — one‑to‑ones, technical reviews, planning, and feedback loops — and build a culture where engineers have high ownership and clear technical accountability.
Technical Leadership and Architecture
  • Act as a working software architect: make and review system design decisions, set technical direction across the stack, and own the architectural roadmap for the application and its services.
  • Provide credible technical leadership and review — design proposals, architectural decisions, and cross‑cutting technical trade‑offs — and raise the engineering quality bar through that engagement rather than from a distance.
  • Own the technical standards of the codebase: API and service design, data modelling, event‑driven patterns, and the code‑review and engineering practices that keep a growing team productive.
  • Partner with product management and domain science to translate the art of the possible into a technical strategy, and feed engineering insight back into what the product should become.
Delivery and Execution
  • Own how the team ships: delivery practices, quality gates, and the pace and predictability of releases across the engineering organization you lead.
  • Drive continuous improvement in delivery — short‑lived branches, frequent integration, strong automated testing, and small, frequent increments — partnering with the DevOps and Developer Experience functions on CI/CD and environment reliability.
  • Remove structural blockers to delivery, balance feature work against platform and technical‑debt investment, and make the trade‑offs visible to stakeholders.
AI‑First Engineering
  • Make AI‑assisted and agentic development a first‑class part of how the team works — setting expectations, sharing patterns, and ensuring engineers use modern AI coding tools effectively in their daily work.
  • Champion an AI‑first engineering culture in hiring, onboarding, and day‑to‑day practice, and partner with the Developer Experience function on tooling, policy, and enablement.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a STEM discipline — Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field. (A Master’s‑level qualification is a requirement for this role.)
  • 12+ years across software engineering and engineering leadership, with a strong technical foundation and demonstrated depth in building and shipping software.
  • Experience managing and growing engineering teams of 10+ people, including hiring, performance management, and career development.
  • Demonstrated ability to act as a software or solution architect — making system design decisions, reviewing architectural proposals, and setting technical direction with credibility.
  • Experience leading across organizational boundaries, including mixed teams of permanent staff and external partners or consultants.
  • Comfort with AI‑assisted development workflows and a commitment to building an AI‑first engineering culture.
Preferred
  • Familiarity with a modern cloud‑native stack (e.g. TypeScript/Node.js, .NET, Azure, Kubernetes), or a track record of getting up to speed with new technologies quickly.
  • Experience transitioning a team or product toward a permanent, in‑house engineering organization, or otherwise leading significant organizational change.
  • Experience driving modern delivery practices — continuous integration, incremental delivery, automated testing, and Agile/Scrum at scale.
  • Background in large‑scale enterprise software or complex technical and industrial domains.
  • A track record of building and developing engineering talent and scaling a team while raising its quality bar.
Why Landmark

This role is the cornerstone of a deliberate, well‑sponsored investment in building a permanent engineering organization in Oslo. You will have a real team, real budget, and the authority to shape it from the foundation up.

We build small, high‑ownership teams and invest in the quality of every person on them. Engineers here co‑author the product strategy alongside product management and domain science: the art of the possible is an engineering contribution, not a function that sits upstream. You will work in a business where software is the product, solving technically demanding problems in a domain where your improvements have visible, measurable impact. We offer competitive compensation including bonus and long‑term incentive programs, and the scope to build something that lasts.
