Help shape how cities are designed

Help shape how cities are designed

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to grow and develop talent across our organization in our AI‑powered architecture design platform. You will spend roughly 70% of your time on product development and 30% on people leadership, managing career growth, removing blockers, and developing individual contributors. You will be working with a group of engineering managers, focusing on the health and growth of our people.

As an Engineering Manager you will be the people leader for a group of individual contributors who work on different product teams. You will combine hands‑on technical judgment with thoughtful people leadership. You will mentor engineers in their growth, set quality and technical standards, and remove blockers so your engineers can do their best work. You will work alongside your people on systems that combine cloud architecture, performance‑sensitive applications, and AI to support complex design and simulation workflows.

Your work will enable architects, planners, and developers to discover smarter, more sustainable solutions and gain meaningful insights into their projects.

How we work

We work in a matrix organization with high degrees of trust and autonomy. We strongly believe in servant leadership and shared accountability. Engineering managers work as peers in a leadership team while managing individual contributors across product teams. Each engineer has both product‑team relationships and a manager relationship. Responsibilities

As an Engineering Manager, you will develop engineers across the organization while remaining a strong hands‑on contributor. You will split your time between people leadership and product development.

Own career development and growth for your engineers. Understand each engineer's strengths, development areas, and aspirations

Conduct regular one‑on‑ones, feedback cycles, and coaching conversations

Participate in hiring and onboarding of engineers. Ensure smooth integration into the organization and their product teams

Remove blockers and advocate for your engineers to ensure they have what they need to succeed

Work with product leads and peer managers to support team health and development

Contribute by coding and being a member of the team

Partner with your engineers on technical problems and decisions

Model high standards for code quality, communication, and problem‑solving

Work through technical trade‑offs alongside your engineers, contributing your own perspective as a peer contributor

Desired profile

Combines strong technical judgment with genuine interest in growing people

Operates with clarity in ambiguous situations and is comfortable handling competing priorities

Recognized as a skilled engineer who writes and ships code regularly

Brings others along through mentoring, enabling, and fostering growth

Experience managing individual contributors across multiple contexts or product areas

Collaborates effectively with peers, product leads, and across the organization

Comfortable developing engineers who work in different teams and on different projects

Motivated by our mission and focused on delivering meaningful impact at scale

Where you might see yourself

Your own hands‑on engineering background likely looks like one of the following:

You get your energy from building the foundations other people rely on, pulling systems apart into simple, observable pieces, owning something in production long enough to feel responsible for it, and reaching for the boring, reliable option before building something new.

You're drawn to problems where the math is the hard part, geometry, simulation, optimization, and you like taking a model from “this is the theory” to something that runs reliably on real inputs and matches what users expect to see.

You start from the user and the problem, not the ticket. You are comfortable with a fuzzy brief and a blank repo, shipping fast to learn, and shaping what gets built as much as how it gets built.

What will help you succeed in this role

Experience in an engineering manager, team lead, or similar people‑leadership role

Genuine interest in developing people and creating environments where they grow

Comfort with matrix or dotted‑line structures where you manage people who work across different teams

Proven ability to balance hands‑on technical contribution with people leadership

Strong communication skills, especially in one‑on‑one coaching and feedback conversations

Experience with Agentic AI

You might also bring

Experience with TypeScript, serverless architectures and AWS

Background in large‑scale systems or platform development

Experience working in cross‑functional, international product teams

Track record of mentoring and developing engineers into stronger contributors

Experience with computational geometry, spatial algorithms, or CAD/BIM data models

Develop engineers across the organization while staying technical. Roughly 70% of your time spent on hands‑on product development

Build and grow a talented group of engineers. See them succeed and advance in their careers

Influence the organization through people leadership and technical mentorship

Direct impact on real‑world problems with measurable environmental impact

Work with experienced engineers across the organization in a mission‑driven culture

Competitive compensation, pension, and benefits

We believe diverse teams build better products, and we are committed to creating a workplace where people can be themselves and do their best work. We are on a mission to help design better cities. With 90% of future population growth expected in urban areas, and construction responsible for around 40% of global CO₂ emissions, the AEC industry must evolve. Our cloud-based Autodesk Forma platform helps users evaluate design choices based on environmental impact, living quality (sun, daylight, noise), and project feasibility.
