Bergen Engines søker elektroingeniør med interesse for AC kraftproduksjon og systemanalyse ved Hordvikneset-fabrikken for elektro, automasjon og kontroll. Du vil jobbe i et internasjonalt fagmiljø med avanserte verktøy og modellering.

Develop the Next Generation of Power Systems

To strengthen our development department for Electro, Automation and Controls, we are looking for an Electrical Engineer with a strong interest or background in AC power generation and distribution systems.

Our Electro, Automation & Control Department consists of highly qualified, self-driven, and motivated professionals. As part of Bergen Engines' Technical Department, we are responsible for developing, maintaining, and delivering reliable and functional control and automation systems for engines and associated equipment. We also hold the electrical and power engineering responsibility for the delivery of complete generator set solutions.

In addition, the department performs project-specific engineering and customization for each delivered installation.

Role Purpose

As Electrical Engineer at Bergen Engines you will be a part of developing solutions for advanced power generation through power system analysis, simulation, component selection, and grid integration, ensuring technically robust and competitive products that meet evolving Customer and regulatory requirements.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Modelling and simulation of electrical power generation and transmission systems
  • Perform transient response/stability analysis and relay coordination study
  • Populate parameters for protection relays and AVR
  • Based on fundamental understanding of physical principles, and results from own simulation, drive component selection, sizing and verification (through simulation, and tests when required)
  • Selection of electrical components that results in competitive power generation products, for both standard and bespoke projects. Components (non-exclusive): generators, transformers, switch gear, energy storage, converters, var compensation
  • Grid code compliance for applicable land power generation projects
  • Based on understanding of emerging requirements resulting from transition in global power generation, participate actively in strategic development of competence and product offerings
  • Facilitate contact and knowledge transfer between electrical engineering capabilities worldwide in Bergen Engines group, and engine/control/mechanical expertise in Bergen

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in electrical engineering
  • Fluent in Norwegian and/or English, both written and orally
  • A sound understanding of three-phase AC systems, electrical machines, and fundamental power-system analysis and control principles.
  • Relevant coursework, thesis work, project experience, or professional experience related to electrical power systems.

Preferred Experience and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of power system protection principles and relay configuration for generators, transformers, feeders, and busbar protection
  • Experience with synchronization, load sharing, and control of generator sets in island mode (microgrid) and grid-connected operation
  • Familiarity with international standards and grid codes (IEC, DNV, IEEE, ENTSO-E, local TSO requirements)
  • Understanding of generator excitation systems (AVR), governor control systems, and power management systems (PMS)
  • Experience with FAT, SAT, commissioning, or troubleshooting of electrical power generation and distribution systems is an advantage
  • Experience from marine, offshore, power generation, renewable energy, or industrial power systems is beneficial
  • Programming experience in MATLAB/Simulink, or similar tools
  • Experience with energy storage systems (BESS), power converters, and microgrid control systems is an advantage
