Job description

Location: Oslo, Norway

Work Pattern: Hybrid (3 days per week in the office)

Type: Permanent

This is not a traditional Software Engineer, DevOps Engineer, or Solutions Architect position. Instead, you'll sit at the centre of all three, identifying developer pain points, designing solutions, and implementing tools and standards that accelerate software delivery.

You'll be joining at an early stage of a strategic initiative focused on improving the developer inner loop and enabling AI-assisted software engineering at scale.

If you're passionate about developer productivity, AI tooling, automation, and helping engineering teams move faster, this could be a unique opportunity to make a significant impact.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Defining best practices for local development environments, testing, build systems, linting, and repository standards
  • Creating automated audits and scorecards to measure repository health and engineering standards adoption
  • Working directly within codebases to implement improvements and establish reference implementations
  • Driving the adoption of AI-assisted development workflows and developer tooling
  • Building integrations across source control, collaboration platforms, issue tracking, and engineering systems
  • Designing machine-readable standards that can be leveraged by both developers and AI agents
  • Collaborating with Platform and DevOps teams to ensure a seamless experience between local development and CI/CD environments
  • Acting as an advocate for engineering excellence across the organisation
Who We’re Looking For

The most important quality for this role is proactivity.

We’re looking for someone who enjoys engaging with engineers, understanding challenges, and building practical solutions that improve developer workflows.

You may come from a background in:

  • Software Engineering
  • Developer Experience Engineering

The technology stack you’ve worked with is less important than your ability to improve engineering processes and drive adoption of modern development practices.

  • Strong software engineering background with hands‑on technical delivery experience
  • Experience working with AI agents, AI tooling, or AI-assisted software development
  • Deep understanding of build systems, testing frameworks, and developer tooling
  • Experience improving engineering workflows, productivity, and developer experience
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and drive adoption across teams
  • Ability to work independently and prioritise high‑impact improvements
  • Experience producing technical standards, documentation, and design proposals
Nice to Have
  • Experience building internal developer platforms
  • Platform Engineering or DevOps experience
  • Open‑source contributions within developer tooling or platform engineering
  • Exposure to security, reliability, or compliance‑focused engineering
  • Experience within large‑scale enterprise environments
  • Energy or industrial sector experience
Seniority

We’re open to speaking with candidates across a range of experience levels.

  • Senior / Principal Engineers are strongly encouraged to apply, particularly those interested in helping shape and eventually lead the function.
  • Strong mid‑level engineers with approximately 5+ years of experience and a clear passion for developer productivity and AI tooling will also be considered.
Why Join?
  • Join a newly formed, high‑visibility engineering function
  • Work with modern AI‑assisted engineering workflows and emerging technologies
  • Solve challenging technical problems at scale
  • Partner directly with engineering leadership
  • Build tools and standards that impact hundreds of developers worldwide
  • Excellent opportunity to shape the future direction of Developer Experience and AI‑enabled software delivery
