Job summary

The Village of Libertyville is seeking a part-time Community Service Officer to support law enforcement and public services. The role involves substantial public interaction, parking enforcement, traffic control, and handling non-criminal incidents under established guidelines.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and strong communication skills. LEADS certification may be pursued after employment. This is an equal opportunity employer.

Community Service Officer (part-time)

Part-time Community Service Officers (CSOs) provide a wide variety of field and administrative support to law enforcement staff and the public. The position involves a significant amount of public contact, with high levels of customer service being a priority. CSOs conduct parking enforcement; handle animal, non-criminal, and private property accident complaints; provide vehicle and pedestrian traffic control; and various other duties as assigned.

Hiring Range: $20 - $26 per hour DOQ Benefits: IMRF Pension Eligible Position, ability to participate in 457 plans Closing Date: Open Until Filled.

General Education, Experience, And License Requirements

• H.S. diploma/GED or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license
• Ability to become LEADS certified
• Excellent communication, written and customer service skills
• Basic knowledge of computers and common Office software
• Requires ability to exercise discretion and judgement, and work independently following established guidelines and procedures
• Requires ability to maintain confidentiality of information and sensitive material.

Physical/Mental Requirements

• Strength and agility to sit, stand, and/or walk for extended periods of time
• Routinely lift and carry up to 20 pounds, occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Mobility to work both in a vehicle and office setting; use standard office equipment; adequate vision to read printed materials; adequate hearing and speech to communicate in person, via telephone, or via radio

Additional Information

• The hiring process may include at least one interview, an extensive background investigation, fingerprint check, and upon a conditional offer of employment a polygraph, psychological and medical examination.
• Part-time: The work schedule is flexible based on Department needs, can range from 20-29 hours per week, and may include weekends and holidays.
