Job summary

Mercury is the European leader in construction solutions and seeks a seasoned Quantity Surveyor to lead the commercial team on major projects in Norway. You will manage contracts, procurement, and reporting, ensuring adherence to commitments and accurate budgeting.

The role requires 5+ years of on-site experience, strong English, and excellence in IT and SAP where applicable. Data centre experience is a plus; join a dynamic team delivering high-impact construction solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor-level or higher qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Commercial Management, or engineering.
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in a large onsite environment (>€200m contracts).
  • Experience with large civil/ground works; data centre exposure desired.
  • Strong teamwork abilities and independence when required.
  • Excellent IT skills, with SAP experience considered an advantage.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, plus fluent English.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the project Commercial Team and support the construction team on all commercial and quantity surveying functions.
  • Identify commercial risks and ensure prompt reporting to management.
  • Prepare monthly progress applications with remeasure, variations, dayworks, or claims.
  • Oversee procurement activities and contract support with the Procurement Department.
  • Manage subcontractor accounts from award to interim valuations and final accounts.
  • Forecast turnover and cash flow for projects and ensure accurate reporting.
  • Provide data analysis on issues and risks for management.
  • Improve and implement best practice commercial processes and budgeting.

Key Responsibilities of the Role:

To lead the project Commercial Team and provide support to the construction team on all commercial and quantity surveying functions including the following key responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with contract obligations and provide advice and monitoring of same to construction team
  • Ability to identify potential commercial risks and ensure prompt reporting of same to management.
  • Compile monthly progress applications and ensure they are inclusive of accurate remeasure, site variations, dayworks or claims
  • Procurement – operational procurement activity and contract support, in conjunction with the Procurement Department
  • Manage subcontractor accounts from initial award to interim valuation, variations, and final account.
  • Managing and forecasting of turnover and cash flow of the projects
  • Reviewing and commercial management of all projects, to ensure accurate and reliable reporting
  • Identify, analyse, and report on trends within the Business & Projects
  • Provide Data and analysis of issues & risks as required by Management.
  • Improve and implement best practice commercial processes and accurate budgeting
  • Lead, support, and provide coaching to commercial team members in best practice quantity surveying and cost management methods.
  • Review all incoming correspondence from Employers, Design Team and /or subcontractors, to identify contractually critical items and to initiate replies
  • To ensure Construction Team is adhering to all Contractual Requirements and providing advice and monitoring of same
  • Ensure reporting is in line with Group Policies & highlight exceptions to Management
  • All other duties associated with this role
Essential Criteria for the Role:
  • Relevant university qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Commercial Management, or equivalent level of education (e.g. engineering) combined with extensive commercial experience.
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience post qualification in a big onsite environment (Contract values >€200m+)
  • Solid experience with large civil and ground works preferred.
  • Data centre experience also desired.
  • Ability to work both individually and as part of a team.
  • Excellent IT Skills (SAP experience is an advantage).
  • Excellent communication and organisation skills.
  • Must have excellent English language skills.
