Job summary

Motorway is recruiting a Backend Engineer to help build and optimise our JavaScript backend. You’ll develop features, improve performance and caching, and ensure reliable, maintainable code running on our AWS stack.

You’ll collaborate with product and design to deliver strong user experiences and contribute to architecture discussions in a fast-moving scale-up. Ideal candidates have experience with ES6/7, Node.js, Express, Sequelize, and both relational and NoSQL databases, in an agile

Qualifications

Commercial experience with JavaScript, including ES6/7 features.
Experience with Node.js and related frameworks (e.g., Express, Sequelize).
Experience working with relational databases and NoSQL databases.
Understanding of web design patterns.
Experience working in a collaborative, agile team environment.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain JavaScript code for new features and performance optimisation.
Contribute to improving performance and caching as the platform scales.
Build maintainable, reusable, and reliable code.
Work with AWS infrastructure to ensure high performance, monitoring, and alerting.
Collaborate with product and design teams to deliver excellent user experiences.
Be an active member of a flat-structured development team, contributing to technical and product strategy discussions.
Implement software development best practices, including testing and code reviews.
