You will publish research, foster industry networks and contribute to strategic program development.
The role emphasizes building innovative learning environments and collaboration between research and maritime practice within an international setting.
The Shipping Management program in Ålesund has a strong position in the maritime industry. The program attracts top candidates nationally and offers an educational environment close to practice—where participants learn how to apply theory to real operational challenges. We aim to provide an innovative learning environment with a strong operational perspective, closely attuned with industry needs. Our goal is to strengthen the position of the study program both nationally and internationally.
The Shipping Management program is part of the Maritime Operations team, combining education and research across both shore and sea —at both operational and managerial levels. Together, Maritime Operations has the strategic goal to be “the preferred partner within research and education in leadership and organization of maritime operations.” The shipping program encompasses the complete maritime value chain.
Digital transformation is changing the maritime industry and the relationship between shore and sea, and brings new requirements for business models, roles, responsibilities, and competence. In our work, simulators and close dialogue with industry are key resources. Our research in particular focuses on how new maritime technologies and environmental regulations affect maritime operations. Therefore, to meet these challenges we have established the Fjord Lab infrastructure that enables the team to test and develop new technologies and study their impact on maritime operations.

The successful candidate must have an academic profile that supports our strategic prioritization of professional development—by combining research-based knowledge with industry insight. The candidate should be able to build and develop activities that enhance our educational and research impact in research to innovative learning environments.
