Job summary

NTS Drachten seeks a Wire EDM Operator to manufacture highly precise parts for semiconductor, analytical, and high‑tech markets. You will program Esprit, set up Fanuc/Sodick machines, and ensure accuracy to about 1 micron in small series.

You’ll join a small team in the EDM department, work in two shifts, and have room for growth and skills development in a hands-on environment that values craftsmanship and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Completed vocational education (MBO level 3) in a technical field or equivalent experience.
• Experience with machining operations (wire EDM, turning, or milling).
• Knowledge of machining strategies, feasibility, tools, and clamping techniques.
• Proactive team player, initiative, accuracy, and willingness to work rotating shifts.
• Good command of Dutch (speaking and writing) due to drawings and work instructions.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate wire EDM machines (Fanuc and Sodick) for unique pieces and small series.
• Independently program in Esprit, selecting clamping and machining strategy.
• Monitor quality and dimensions during and after machining (accurate to ~1 micron).
• Collaborate with engineering and preparation to enable new products.
• Suggest improvements to existing production processes.

Job Description

As a Wire EDM Operator in the EDM department of NTS Drachten, you manufacture highly precise precision parts for customers in the semiconductor, analytical, and high-tech markets. You work on advanced wire EDM machines from Sodick and Fanuc and program your work yourself in Esprit, our CAD/CAM package. From clamping to machining strategy: it's your work and your craftsmanship.

The products you make are compact, often no larger than what fits in the palm of your hand, and accurate to about 1 micron. No mass production, but unique pieces and small series in high-quality and exotic materials such as titanium, molybdenum, niobium, platinum, stainless steel, and Stavax. It is precisely this combination of tight tolerances and varying materials that makes it true craftsmanship.

You work in a small team of about four colleagues in the EDM department, with both wire EDM and sinker EDM machines, in two shifts. The lines are short, and the atmosphere is direct and down-to-earth. Together with engineering and preparation, you make new products feasible and look for the best way to machine them.

Whether you are a mid-level, senior, or specialist, you are all welcome. Even if you are currently turning or milling and still need to learn wire EDM, we would like to talk to you. There is room for further development in the field, and your dedication and flexibility are appreciated.

Furthermore, your tasks include:

• Setting up and operating wire EDM machines from Fanuc and Sodick for unique pieces and small series
• Independently programming in Esprit, including choosing clamping and machining strategy
• Monitoring quality and dimensions during and after machining, accurate to about 1 micron
• Making new products feasible together with engineering and preparation
• Actively thinking about improving and optimizing existing production processes

Requirements

• A completed vocational education (mbo) level 3 in a technical field, or a similar level of work experience and thinking gained in practice
• Experience with machining operations, for example as a wire EDM operator, turner, or miller
• Knowledge of machining strategies, such as feasibility, tools, and clamping techniques
• A proactive team player who takes initiative, works accurately, finds continuous improvement self-evident, and is willing to work in rotating shifts
• Good command of the Dutch language in speech and writing, due to drawings, work instructions, and communication on the work floor

• Salary ranging from €3,200.00 to €4,400.00 gross per month, depending on experience and qualifications
• Over 40 days off: 27 vacation days and 13 ADV days with a full-time position
