Our mission is to help scientist-entrepreneurs turn breakthrough research into thriving companies.

We invest in science spinouts as early as possible. We don’t sift through thousands of pitch decks. Instead we spend our time diving deep into the science that we think can solve a meaningful problem. We assist scientist-entrepreneurs in building a company, with a focus on the first 500 days.

To do all of this, we are looking for a new team member.

About you

Some characteristics of an ideal candidate are listed below. We know that such an ideal person may not exist, so don’t hesitate to apply if you match the profile >81%.

• You thrive in an entrepreneurial, self-starting work environment where learning by doing, leading your own projects from start to finish and driving decisions in the team are key;
• You have a background (MSc/PhD) in one of the beta-sciences and love connecting with scientists;
• You enjoy going deep down a ‘rabbit hole’ of a new scientific topic, just as much as you cherish the creative interaction with (potential) scientist entrepreneurs;
• You have several years of relevant work experience, either in an operational role in a technology startup or in investing in, coaching or managing entrepreneurs;
• You have a fondness for the ‘early struggle’ phase of tech companies and an eagerness and skills to assist scientific founders in building thriving companies
• You have a network of scientists, universities/research institutions or other possible sources of great science entrepreneurs;
• You have a few quirky personality traits and a well-developed right brain hemisphere.

Practicalities

• The starting date is flexible – the sooner the better.
• We are based in Amsterdam (Joseph, Gijs), Munich (Anna-Lena), Zurich (Julia) and Riga (Haralds). We are flexible in terms of location. But we do ask you to come visit Amsterdam roughly once every month.
• We are flexible in terms of seniority. Let’s talk and figure out what role would fit your profile.

Our journey so far

Positron Ventures was founded by Joseph and Gijs in 2022 based on a shared passion for science, technology and early stage companies – and on the conviction that the next wave of innovation will come from fundamental scientific breakthroughs. In order to contribute to bringing these much needed innovations to market, at Positron we believe that a new type of VC is required; one that engages with scientist-entrepreneurs at an early stage, one that is able to assess startups working on highly technical innovations and one that offers support with patient capital and operational help if required.
