Optics11 in Amsterdam is expanding its Underwater Acoustics R&D team by hiring an Acoustic Signal Processing Engineer to tackle challenging problems at the intersection of signal processing, applied mathematics, physics, and software engineering.

You will develop sonar processing algorithms, mathematical models, and software for next-generation fiber-optic sensing systems, collaborating with experts across disciplines to operate in demanding environments.

Qualifications

  • MSc or PhD in a quantitative field (Electrical Eng, Applied Math, Physics, CS, Signal Processing, etc.).
  • 1–3 years of research/development experience or a PhD.
  • Strong background in physical modelling, underwater acoustics, wave propagation, signal processing, sonar, applied mathematics, or equivalent.
  • Excellent programming skills (Python, Julia, C++, etc.) with willingness to deepen proficiency.
  • Strong analytical/problem-solving skills and good communication in English.

Responsibilities

  • Execute acoustic modelling and signal processing tasks for underwater sensing systems.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental fiber-optic data from lab and field trials.
  • Develop and test algorithms for beamforming, event detection, filtering, and data classification.
  • Document methods, results, and conclusions; communicate progress and challenges to the team.
