Job summary

Usono is a MedTech company revolutionizing MSK ultrasound through dynamic imaging solutions. We are hiring a Test Automation Engineer to write TypeScript test automation and Python test harnesses for AI components, shaping the quality of our software releases.

You will design automated system test suites using Playwright + Cucumber, curate test data (including DICOM), and integrate testing into CI/CD pipelines. Join a hands-on team delivering trustworthy medical devices.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of software testing with a strong automation component; write and maintain automation code, not only execute tests.
• Proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript and Python for web and AI stacks.
• Hands-on experience with a modern browser automation framework; Playwright.
• Experience testing APIs and working with Git-based workflows and CI pipelines.
• Strong test design skills: translate ambiguous requirements into sharp, maintainable scenarios.

Responsibilities

• Author and review executable specifications (Gherkin) with developers and product owners, turning requirements into concrete, testable scenarios before implementation starts.
• Design, implement, and maintain automated system test suites (Playwright + Cucumber, TypeScript) for the web application and its backend APIs, running against per-PR environments and staging.
• Build and maintain test harnesses for our Python AI components: regression testing of model outputs against reference datasets and tolerance-based assertions.
• Design and curate test data, including anonymized and synthetic medical imaging data (DICOM).
• Extend and care for the test layers around the system suites: unit test quality (Vitest), component/interaction tests (Storybook), API tests, and post-deploy smoke tests.
• Integrate and maintain testing in our CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) with tooling that links tests to requirements and publishes test-run evidence to our quality management system.
• Perform exploratory testing where automation doesn't reach, and turn findings into automated coverage.
• Identify, document, and track defects through our problem-resolution process, and verify fixes.
• Contribute verification evidence and test documentation within our quality management system and participate in risk-based test prioritization.

About Usono

Usono is a MedTech company that revolutionizes musculoskeletal (MSK) ultrasound through dynamic imaging solutions. Our main product, ProbeFix Dynamic, is used by doctors of elite sports organizations such as Lugano FC, Torino FC and research institutions such as Mayo Clinic and MIT. Thanks to our hardware, they unlock new insights in the body in movement, for prevention, diagnosis and rehabilitation.

To extent our product portfolio we build software for medical imaging, including AI-based analysis. Our software is developed as a medical device (IEC 62304), which means the tests you write will contribute to the safety of our products, and to the formal verification of a regulated product that clinicians will rely on.

We work automation-first. Requirements are written as executable specifications (Gherkin/BDD), verified by automated suites running in CI on every change, and traced end-to-end from user need to test result. You will own a large part of that machinery: designing tests together with developers at specification time, then implementing and maintaining the automation.

This is a hands‑on engineering role. Your work includes writing TypeScript test automations for our web products, and test harnesses for our Python AI components, and your work will be visible in every release we make.

The Job

As our Test Automation Engineer, you will work closely with the development and AI/ML team to automate and execute testing for our software propositions. You’ll shape the future of dynamic ultrasound by:

• Author and review executable specifications (Gherkin) together with developers and product owners, turning requirements into concrete, testable scenarios before implementation starts.
• Design, implement, and maintain our automated system test suites (Playwright + Cucumber, TypeScript) for the web application and its backend APIs, running against per-PR environments and staging.
• Build and maintain test harnesses for our Python AI components: regression testing of model outputs against reference datasets, accuracy metrics, and tolerance‑based assertions.
• Design and curate test data, including anonymized and synthetic medical imaging data (DICOM) and synthetic ground‑truth datasets.
• Extend and care for the test layers around the system suites: unit test quality (Vitest), component/interaction tests (Storybook), API tests, and post‑deploy smoke tests.
• Integrate and maintain testing in our CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions), including the tooling that links tests to requirements and publishes test‑run evidence to our quality management system.
• Perform exploratory testing where automation doesn't reach, and turn what you find into automated coverage.
• Identify, document, and track defects through our problem‑resolution process, and verify their fixes.
• Contribute verification evidence and test documentation within our quality management system, and participate in risk‑based test prioritization with the team.

Who You Are

We’re looking for a test automation engineer with a keen eye for detail.

Required

• 3+ years of experience in software testing with a strong test-automation component, you write and maintain automation code, not only execute tests.
• Solid programming skills in TypeScript/JavaScript and/or Python, with the ability to become productive in both (our web stack is TypeScript; our AI stack is Python).
• Hands‑on experience with a modern browser automation framework, we use Playwright.
• Experience testing APIs and working with Git‑based workflows and CI pipelines.
• Strong test design skills: you can take an ambiguous requirement and turn it into sharp, maintainable scenarios.
• Experience testing ML/AI systems or working with scientific/numerical code.
• Documentation discipline and precision.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to Have

• Experience in a regulated industry (medical devices, healthcare, automotive, aerospace, finance), medical specifically is a plus.
• Familiarity with BDD and Gherkin/Cucumber in practice.
• Familiarity with IEC 62304, ISO 13485, or ISO 14971 (we'll teach you what you need, mindset matters more than standards knowledge).
• Experience with DICOM or medical imaging data.
• Familiarity with AWS and infrastructure‑as‑code environments.
• ISTQB certification (Foundation or Advanced Test Automation Engineer).
