Job summary

788 Damen Services B.V. is seeking a Technical Author to turn complex ship technical information into clear manuals and guides for customers and crews. You will produce vessel operating manuals and ensure compliance with our STE writing standards.

You will lead documentation projects, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Damen, and adapt content to meet customer and vessel needs while planning timelines and budgets.

Qualifications

• HBO level with a technical background.
• At least 3 years of experience as a Technical Author.
• Skilled in CCMS, XML and DITA; FrameMaker is a plus.
• Fluent in English and able to write clearly.
• Familiar with STE (preferred).
• Able to read and interpret engineering (P&ID) drawings.

Responsibilities

• Develop new vessel operating manuals and enhance existing documentation, customizing content to meet specific customer and vessel needs.
• Gather information through literature review, expert interviews, and technical analysis, and interpret manufacturer guidelines and regulatory requirements.
• Create precise, unambiguous content in English and apply our writing style guide, including Simplified Technical English (STE) where applicable.
• Lead your own documentation projects, including planning and budgeting, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with customer expectations.
• Work closely with multidisciplinary teams across Damen, communicating respectfully with internal and external stakeholders.
