At Sytac, we build high-performing engineering teams for leading organizations in the Netherlands and beyond. We combine a pragmatic, people-first culture with strong technical craftsmanship, giving engineers autonomy in real production environments, backed by a consultancy that invests in growth, community, and long-term partnerships.
For one of our major e-commerce clients, we are looking for a Systems & Network Engineer to strengthen their On-Prem Network (OPN) team. This team is responsible for the physical and logical network infrastructure that powers the company’s logistics, engineering operations, internal connectivity, and end-to-end platform availability. You will help build, scale, secure, and automate a critical network backbone used across offices, warehouses, cloud environments, and internal engineering teams.
This is a hybrid systems-engineering and networking role in a high-availability environment, ideal for engineers who enjoy Linux, automation, and large-scale networking.
What you’ll do
- Build, maintain, patch, and improve the on-premise network infrastructure and supporting Linux (RHEL) services
- Automate manual or semi-manual tasks (compliance, deployments, configuration) using Puppet and scripting (Bash/Python)
- Troubleshoot network issues across ISO layers 1–3 and support internal teams with incoming requests
- Manage and orchestrate network services such as DHCP, DNS, NTP, monitoring, orchestration, and supporting servers
- Contribute to major upcoming network projects in routing, switching, connectivity, and security
- Lead and coordinate network-related initiatives — upgrades, migrations, implementations — using strong project management skills
- Collaborate across engineering, warehouse operations, security teams, and vendors for seamless service delivery
- Anchor improvements by documenting changes, sharing knowledge, and embedding best practices into the team
- Ensure high availability, performance, and security of the network infrastructure supporting all business operations
What you’ll bring
Required skills
- Experience with Puppet and infrastructure automation
- Ability to troubleshoot network issues across layers 1–3
- Strong scripting ability (Bash and/or Python)
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals and operational networking
- Excellent communication skills and experience collaborating in cross-functional teams
- Problem-solving mindset and automation-driven approach
Preferred skills
- Knowledge of routing & switching protocols (BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VXLAN, EVPN)
- Experience with network security (firewalls, VPNs) and common network services (DHCP, DNS, NTP)
- Understanding of WDM, KVM, InfluxDB/Telegraf, or Golang
- Experience with large-scale or multi-site network environments (warehouses, datacenters, offices, cloud)
About the team
The team manages the end-to-end network backbone that supports the company’s core operations. It’s a collaborative, experienced group working on high-impact projects, with shared ownership over stability, reliability, and continuous improvement.
Hardware & tooling used include:
- Cisco & Juniper networking hardware
- Puppet & Python for automation and orchestration
- RHEL servers providing network services (monitoring, DHCP, DNS, NTP, orchestration)
Why this role fits you
- You love systems engineering with a strong affinity for networking
- You enjoy automating manual work and making infrastructure more reliable and scalable
- You appreciate large, distributed network environments that span warehouses, datacenters, cloud, and offices
- You like combining hands-on engineering with project coordination and stakeholder communication
What we offer
- A high-impact engineering role supporting the network infrastructure of one of the Netherlands’ largest e-commerce platforms
- The opportunity to work in a technically challenging environment with modern networking and automation tooling
- Collaboration with experienced network specialists eager to share knowledge
- A culture focused on ownership, reliability, and continuous improvement
- Access to Sytac’s engineering community, learning sessions, and professional development support
