Job summary

Airwallex is seeking a senior backend engineer to own the technical direction of our Payments Platform. You will lead architecture decisions, design scalable microservices, and influence direction across product, infrastructure and external teams to deliver reliable payment experiences.

Expect to work on high-volume distributed systems, REST APIs, and payment gateway integrations, while mentoring engineers and raising the bar for code quality, testing, and observability across global teams.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with backend ownership.
• Strong design/operational experience with high-volume distributed systems.
• Hands-on with Java or Kotlin and Spring/Spring Boot.

Responsibilities

• Define technical direction for Airwallex Payments Platform.
• Lead architecture decisions and drive reliability and maintainability.
• Build scalable backend services and REST APIs within a microservices setup.
• Collaborate with product, infrastructure, and external teams across time zones.
