Job summary

HAL Allergy in Leiden seeks a Senior Microbiology Analyst to coordinate environmental monitoring and microbiological testing in a GMP environment. You will act as SME, drive investigations, and support product release.

You will lead the QC Microbiology team, trend data, review results, and assist with equipment qualification. A Bachelor's in Microbiology and 5+ years in pharma/biotech are required; Dutch and English fluency is essential.

  • Minimum 5 years in pharma/biotech.
  • Experience with GMP environmental monitoring.
  • Experience writing SOPs, deviations, CAPAs.

  • Perform environmental monitoring of cleanrooms and water systems.
  • Conduct microbiological analyses including sterility, bioburden, endotoxin, growth promotion testing, and microorganism identification.
  • Review test results, reports, and laboratory documentation for accuracy and compliance.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts, investigations, deviations, change controls, and CAPAs.
  • Training and mentoring QC Microbiology team members.
  • Act as deputy for the QC Microbiology Supervisor when needed.

Job description

As a Senior Microbiology Analyst, you will play a key role within our Quality Control Microbiology team. You will coordinate environmental monitoring and microbiological testing activities that support manufacturing, quality control, and product release. In addition, you will act as a subject matter expert for microbiological topics, drive investigations and improvements, and serve as deputy for the QC Microbiology Supervisor when needed.

In this position, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and performing microbiological activities while ensuring compliance with GMP, EHS, and quality requirements.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Coordinating laboratory sampling and microbiological testing activities.
  • Performing environmental monitoring of cleanrooms and water systems.
  • Conducting microbiological analyses including sterility, bioburden, endotoxin, growth promotion testing, and microorganism identification.
  • Trending and tracking environmental monitoring data and facility microorganisms.
  • Managing laboratory reference standards, reagents, supplies, and microbial isolate strains.
  • Reviewing test results, reports, and laboratory documentation for accuracy and compliance.
  • Supporting equipment qualification and system validation activities.
  • Leading troubleshooting efforts, investigations, deviations, change controls, and CAPAs.
  • Training and mentoring QC Microbiology team members.
  • Acting as the primary point of contact during the absence of the QC Microbiology Supervisor.
You have

You are an analytical and proactive microbiologist who enjoys taking ownership and helping others succeed.

We are looking for someone with:
  • A Bachelor's degree (HBO) in Microbiology or a related life sciences discipline.
  • At least 5 years of experience within the pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology industry.
  • Experience with environmental monitoring and testing of critical utilities in a GMP environment.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with sterility, bioburden, endotoxin, growth promotion, and environmental monitoring testing.
  • Experience writing SOPs, reports, deviations, change controls, and CAPAs.
  • Advanced knowledge of cGMP requirements and laboratory safety standards.
  • Qualification to work in Class A/B cleanroom environments.
  • Excellent communication skills in both Dutch and English.
