Overview

About The Role We are looking for a Data Scientist to join our Payments Data Science and Analytics team and make significant contributions to our mission to streamline and optimize Uber's global payment experiences. You will work with product managers, engineers, business leaders and fellow data scientists to make meaningful contributions across various payment products in our rider and eater apps. You will work on fast-moving, high-stakes problems reaching a global audience. A deep analytical passion and the ability to execute on key business priorities is a must for this role.
If you are interested in advanced modeling and putting models into production, this role is not it! We have an ML team which works on these types of projects.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough analyses of datasets to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for improving the user experience with payments
  • Refine ambiguous questions and generate new hypotheses about the product and business through a deep understanding of the data, our customers, and our business
  • Design experiments and draw detailed, impactful conclusions to understand the impact of product changes
  • Develop and monitor strategic metrics to measure success for our teams and understand all underlying drivers
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, business leaders, and other data scientists to define project goals and make decisions based on data insights and experiment results
  • Communicate data driven insights and learning across cross functional peers and management
  • Mentor junior ICs and serve as a data thought leader in your product areas of responsibility
Qualifications
Required / Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelors or M.S. or PhD in Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, or other quantitative fields
  • 6+ years of experience in improving products, understanding the user journey and extracting insights from data
  • Strong business and product sense: ability to shape complex, vague questions that touch multiple product/project areas into well-defined analyses that drive business decisions
  • Advanced SQL expertise and also comfortable with using Python and R when needed
  • 5+ years of experience in launching multiple large-scale experiments (such as A/B experiments) and expertise in experimental design and using statistical methods in exploratory analysis
  • Advanced experience with dashboarding/data visualization (i.e. Google Data Studio, Tableau, Mixpanel, Looker or similar)
  • Ability to work in a self-guided manner and deliver on tight timelines while maintaining quality and detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively and manage relationships with partners from both technical and non-technical backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced experience with experimental design and statistical methods
  • Data engineering/pipeline creation experience
  • Prior experience within the payments or fintech industry
